"The assassination of the author Hrant Dink in Istanbul in 2007, a high-profile advocate of Turkish-Armenian reconciliation, reignited the debate in Turkey over the annihilation of the Ottoman Armenians. Many Turks with Armenian ancestry soon re-awakened to their heritage, reflecting on how their grandparents were forcibly Islamized and Turkified, and on the suffering their families endured to keep their stories secret. At last, the silence had been broken: there was now a public debate about the extermination and the confiscation of Armenian property. Vicken Cheterian's Open Wounds explains how, after the First World War, the new Turkish Republic forcibly erased the memory of the atrocities, and traces of Armenians, from their historic lands--a process to which the international community turned a blind eye. The result of this amnesia was, Cheterian argues, "a century of genocide." Many Turkish intellectuals now acknowledge that the nation collectively paid a price by forgetting such traumatic events, and that Turkey cannot solve its recurrent conflicts with its minorities--such as the Kurds today--nor have an open and democratic society without addressing the original sin on which the state was founded: the Armenian Genocide"--

It was in between my freshman and sophomore years of high school, that I wrote my fi rst short story 4 knights in armor, now titled Knights of Kenai. However, Knights of Kenai was cut from the fi nal version of this manuscript. Likewise the name of this book, originally it was entitled Writing my Heart Out but due to personal reasons I thought to change the title. This book has been ten years in the making and through those 10 years I have added new pieces and taken some out. With all the changes I fi nally have come to the point where I feel satisfi ed with this fi nal version. I feel ready to share these wounds with the world. Now when I say wounds I am referring to my emotions, and thoughts that I put forth into writing and in these wounds I show how I have been over these past ten years. Some political and some refl ecting my own life, this is me renewing myself getting out aggressions through my writings. For me writing about real life or stuff I am afraid to speak out about helps me in expressing myself. Writing in other words is a form of therapy. It is through writing that I allow myself to fully express how and what I am feeling instead of holding it in. Writing is my escape from this crazy world; I need to do it like I need to breathe. What I write are my wounds and when I share them I open them. So here are my wounds, they are now open!

On December 10, 1953, tragedy was visited on a family when Nathaniel Allen was murdered on the Sampit River by his white employer, who lured him into the meeting under the false promise of reconciliation. Allen's death was recorded as an accidental drowning, a deliberate cover-up of the bullet hole seen by more than one witness. Three generations later, Phil Allen Jr. revisits this harrowing story and recounts the "baton of bitterness" that this murder passed down in his family. Through interviews, difficult conversations, and deep theological reflection, Allen takes up the challenge of racism today, naming it for what it is and working to chart a path toward reconciliation. Open Wounds, and the documentary that accompanies it, is a transformative experience of listening and learning as a grandson looks, laments, an ultimately leads his family and his society forward toward a just and reconciled future. It's an essential part of our national reckoning with racism and injustice.

This book presents state of the art knowledge on new techniques and materials that can improve functional and aesthetic results in wound healing while reducing invasiveness, based on the author's extensive personal experience. The aim is to equip the practitioner with all the information required in order to select a strategy that will accelerate wound healing and minimize both the risk of complications and scar formation after the wound has fully healed. The opening chapters set the stage by providing an overview of wound healing, including brief descriptions of the anatomy of the skin, the wound healing process, and advanced wound dressings. A full description follows of the various methodologies employed in repairing acute wounds with the goal of achieving optimal functional and cosmetic outcomes while utilizing the safest and least invasive method. Treatment protocols that have proven successful in closing nonhealing and/or delayed healing chronic wounds are then presented. In addition, a chapter addresses aesthetic procedures using advanced technology in wound healing. The closing chapter presents author’s experience with the establishment a hospital wound dressing team. The text is supported by 1,411 full color photos. Since the publication of the second edition, there have been many notable advances in wound healing research. The third edition is expanded and updated to reflect the advancements and new information.
