They Told Me Not To Take That Job written by Reynold Levy and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-12 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

When Reynold Levy became the new president of Lincoln Center in 2002, New York Magazine described the situation he walked in to as "a community in deep distress, riven by conflict." Ideas for the redevelopment of Lincoln Center's artistic facilities and public spaces required spending more than 1.2 billion, but there was no clear pathway for how to raise that kind of unprecedented sum. The individual resident organizations that were the key constituents of Lincoln Center -- the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the Juilliard School, and eight others -- could not agree on a common capital plan or fundraising course of action. Instead, intramural rivalries and disputes filled the vacuum. Besides, some of those organizations had daunting problems of their own. Levy tells the inside story of the demise of the New York City Opera, the Metropolitan Opera's need to use as collateral its iconic Chagall tapestries in the face of mounting operating losses, and the New York Philharmonic's dalliance with Carnegie Hall. Yet despite these and other challenges, Levy and the extraordinary civic leaders at his side were able to shape a consensus for the physical modernization of the sixteen-acre campus and raise the money necessary to maintain Lincoln Center as the country's most vibrant performing arts destination. By the time he left, Lincoln Center had prepared itself fully for the next generation of artists and audiences. They Told Me Not to Take That Job is more than a memoir of life at the heart of one of the world's most prominent cultural institutions. It is also a case study of leadership and management in action. How Levy and his colleagues triumphantly steered Lincoln Center -- through perhaps the most tumultuous decade of its history to a startling transformation -- is fully captured in his riveting account.

Adapting Margaret Atwood written by Shannon Wells-Lassagne and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-01 with Performing Arts categories.

This book engages with Margaret Atwood’s work and its adaptations. Atwood has long been appreciated for her ardent defence of Canadian authors and her genre-bending fiction, essays, and poetry. However, a lesser-studied aspect of her work is Atwood’s role both as adaptor and as source for adaptation in media as varied as opera, television, film, or comic books. Recent critically acclaimed television adaptations of the novels The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) and Alias Grace (Amazon) have rightfully focused attention on these works, but Atwood’s fiction has long been a source of inspiration for artists of various media, a seeming corollary to Atwood’s own tendency to explore the possibilities of previously undervalued media (graphic novels), genres (science-fiction), and narratives (testimonial and historical modes). This collection hopes to expand on other studies of Atwood’s work or on their adaptations to focus on the interplay between the two, providing an interdisciplinary approach that highlights the protean nature of the author and of adaptation.

If you’re looking for beautiful scenery filled with lush greenery and azure waters, this is not the place. Rather, this book looks at the most beautiful aspect of a place: the lives of its people. Southeast Asia, a region internationally recognized synonymously with ASEAN, consists of ten countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, and Singapore. In the blink of an eye, 10 years have passed since author's first book hit the shelves. author has since developed an appreciation for ASEAN and their collective efforts for the well-being of the people in each country; Singapore’s efforts to lead the region in its development have also been an immense source of pride. The region’s growth and resilience have once again inspired the author to pick up his dusty old camera, and to tell a story through his photographs. This time, the author hopes to capture and present the candid livelihoods of each region’s people. Through this, the author hopes to introduce to the world the wonderous, ecstatic region that is ASEAN, filled with colours and stories.
