Operation Diver' is the story of a battle: its action, people, landscapes, and remains. The battle was Anti-Aircraft Command's attempt to defeat the V1 flying-bomb, the first of Nazi Germany's 'retribution' weapons, whose attacks dominated the home front in the final year of the Second World War. Beginning in the week of D-Day, the flying bomb battle lasted for nine months. In that time the men and women of AA Command became a massed, mobile army, shifting a vast carpet of guns to meet the V1's changing lines of attack. Beginning in Kent and Sussex, their journey took in the Thames Estuary, East Anglia and eventually the Yorkshire coast. Along with the RAF's fighter aircraft and the larger air defence system, their mission was to prevent a single flying bomb from reaching London, or any other British city. The battle was won; but not before many technical and human obstacles were overcome.

1944. The Second World War still rages, engulfing the entire world. For George Yeoman of the 380 Squadron of Mosquito fighter-bombers, it often feels like the war has gone on forever, with no end in sight. Most of the men he began serving with at the start of the war are long dead, with replacements appearing almost every day to take the place of the casualties. Like many of his fellow pilots, Yeoman is overworked and on edge, a hair's breadth from collapsing entirely. But, as is the nature of war, he must keep on for Queen and country and the victory of the Allied world... When intelligence is smuggled from the Continent to England that reveals the Germans have constructed a deadly new weapon, Yeoman and his fellow airmen face a desperate new challenge. The devastating V-1 robot bomb threatens plans for an Allied invasion. Capable of causing appalling damage to a London wearing of bloodshed and war, the bomb's menace returns Londoners to a state of fear worse than that experienced during the Blitz. Powerful, dangerous, and seemingly unstoppable, the V-1 poses a challenge to the brave aircrews of the Allied forces, who seek to destroy Germany's latest invention without destroying themselves in the process. The countermeasures against the V-1 flying bomb campaign are dubbed Operation Diver. Yeoman's squadron is tasked with wrecking German launching pads and blowing up undergrown arsenals, a dangerous mission in itself that threatens death by flak, but one far less perilous than trying to take out the bombs after they have been launched. If the Mosquitos mistime their aerial attacks on the V-1s, death can come even sooner. Yeoman must keep up not only his own spirits, but those of his men, through some of the war's darkest days. Yet those in power keep him in the dark about the true nature of some of his missions, the truth about which he must never know... Robert Jackson was born in 1941 and educated at the Richmond School in Yorkshire. A full-time author since 1969, he has written over fifty books. He speaks five languages and specialises in aviation and military history, with his own extensive travel and experiences strongly influencing his work. He has flown a wide variety of aircraft, ranging from jets to gliders, and was previously a member of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Operation Diver is one of seven books featuring George Yeoman. Endeavour Press is the UK's leading independent digital publisher. Combat Divers written by Michael G. Welham and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-19 with History categories.

The full visual history of the special forces combat diver from World War II to the present day. Combat divers are an elite within an elite. Every special forces combat diver is required to pass selection twice – first into the elite military unit and then a combat diving qualification. The combat dive units themselves are tiny and the operations highly classified. The role of a military diver is inevitably a lonely and a dangerous one, whether clearing mines or striking from the sea against enemy-held targets. Fully illustrated with rare and unusual images, Combat Divers reveals their little-known yet fascinating operations, from Dutch Special Forces combat divers covertly operating against Somali pirates to the actions of Soviet Spetsnaz divers in Swedish territorial waters during the Cold War. It also examines how the most famous units, such as the US Navy SEALs and the Royal Navy's SBS, are currently operating and adapting to threats in a multitude of theatres. Combat Divers gives an insight into specialist kit and vehicles presently used and equipment that is being developed and trialed throughout the world. Covering a variety of kit, from dry deck shelters to mini-submarines and swimmer delivery vehicles, former Royal Marines Commando Michael G. Welham draws on his own extensive diving experience to reveal exactly how this equipment is used by special forces dive teams. As their kit and equipment constantly evolve, so does the nature of their work and even the team element. Combat Divers also details the first female combat divers and includes their own first-hand accounts about their groundbreaking roles within their respective units to create a fascinating history of these elite special forces operatives.

God Spies written by Garry Matheny and has been published by Independently Published this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-03 with categories.

GOD & SPIES: Based on a True Story. Author GM Matheny was a US Navy saturation diver on the nuclear submarine USS Halibut. Involved in Operation Ivy Bells. America's most important (and most dangerous of the Cold War) clandestine operations. If you like good old fashioned American bravado, espionage and American history, you will enjoy this book. GOD & SPIES is a firsthand account of America's greatest intelligence coup! Operation Ivy Bells was not a onetime intercept of foreign intelligence but an ongoing operation of multiple Soviet military channels! Another reason for the high interest in our operation was the audacious nature in which it was done-with not one person risking his neck but the crews of two US Navy nuclear submarines which rendezvoused in Soviet territorial waters. "How did I end up as a navy diver, four hundred feet down in a frigid Russian sea? After making my dad totally disgusted with me, I set out to make him happy. 'Honor thy father' - I struggled with a decision to serve God. 'Lord, I will give my life to you and serve you if you let me make this dive.' But I had the impression He only wanted to know one thing: 'What if I do not let you? Will you serve me anyway?'"BOOK EXCERPT The tenders in the dive chamber who are bringing in Red Diver's umbilical cable, unexpectedly have his cable ripped out of their hands! One of the tenders says, "What's going on?" Matheny's fins have landed back onto the first leg of the DSRV, which keeps him from sliding back any farther. He then pulls toward him about 30 feet of his umbilical cord and makes a dash for the next leg coming down from the DSRV. He makes it, but the red light shining in Matheny's face is reminding him he is running out of time. From his position, he can see the light shining down in the water from the entry point back into the dive chamber. He positions himself to push off the last leg of the DSRV so he can enter the dive chamber. Then unexplainably he is again jerked backward with another sharp pull! This time his face mask slams into the leg of the DSRV. Matheny hurriedly makes a grab for this leg clinging to it.
