Cognitive Support For Learning written by Piet A. M. Kommers and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Computers categories.

This book addresses the various aspects of computational support systems for learners nowadays. It highlights in particular those learning aspects that rely heavily upon one's imagination of knowledge and new ideas. The question is how learners may become more effective through the use of highly graphical computer systems that now conquer almost every desk. As an extrapolation of the constructionistic paradigm, learning is seen here as a process of conceptual design. Witnessing the prudent introduction of CADD software (Computer Aided Drafting and Design) it is obvious that users are generally scrupulous to accept the computer in the ideational stages of design. This book presents both existing conceptual techniques and those estimated to arrive in the few coming years.

F. Scott Fitzgerald once said: »Show me a hero, and I'll write you a tragedy.« In the 1990s, nobody fell deeper than O.J. Simpson. Once considered a national treasure, the athlete was accused of brutally slaying his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman on June 12, 1994. Within days, the media and public developed an unprecedented obsession with the story, turning a murder investigation and trial into a sensationalized reality show. Tatjana Neubauer examines the mediatization, deliberate manipulation, and the simplification of popular criminal trials for profit on television. She demonstrates that TV conflated legal proceedings into entertainment programming by commodifying events, people, and places.

This enquiry into the principles and practice of reading literature brings together insights from cognitive studies, literary theory, empirical literature studies, learning and teaching research and higher education research. Reading is conceptualised as an active process of meaning-making that is determined by subjective as well as contextual factors and guided by a sense of purpose. This sense of purpose, part of a professional and conscious approach to reading, is the central element in the model of reading that this study proposes. As well as a conceptual aim, this model also has pedagogical power and serves as the basis for a number of critical and creative exercises geared towards developing literary reading strategies and strategic reading competences in general. These activities demonstrate how the main tenets of the study can be put into practice within the context of a particular institution of higher education.

Request and receive an e-inspection copy today! By focusing on the early philosophies of learning and the key behavioural, cognitive and social theorists, this book provides a comprehensive overview of children's learning. The authors discuss the key learning theories, highlight the strengths and weaknesses of each approach and encourage reflection on how different approaches impact on the learning environment. The discussion finishes with an exploration of the new sociology of childhood. Examples are drawn from practice to highlight key concepts, and to make vital links between theory and practice. Theorists considered include: - Locke - Rousseau - Montesori -Piaget -Vygotsky - Bandura - Bronfenbrenner - Bruner Accessibly written, with key questions and recommended reading included, this book is essential reading for all those studying on child development, early childhood and childhood studies courses, and for anyone interested in understanding more about how children learn and think. Why not also have a look at the companion title How Children Learn to explore how learning is best facilitated in any setting? Colette Gray is Principal Lecturer in Early Childhood Education at Stranmillis University. Dr Sean MacBlain is Reader in Child Development and Disability at University College Plymouth, St. Mark & St. John. 'It gives the reader food for thought and questions how we recognise that children have learnt something, and more importantly challenges our own confidence and ability to explain the process they moved through to reach that final point' - Denise Chadwick, Course Leader BA Early Childhood Studies, University of Huddersfield
