Optimal mass transport has emerged in the past three decades as an active field with wide-ranging connections to the calculus of variations, PDEs, and geometric analysis. This graduate-level introduction covers the field's theoretical foundation and key ideas in applications. By focusing on optimal mass transport problems in a Euclidean setting, the book is able to introduce concepts in a gradual, accessible way with minimal prerequisites, while remaining technically and conceptually complete. Working in a familiar context will help readers build geometric intuition quickly and give them a strong foundation in the subject. This book explores the relation between the Monge and Kantorovich transport problems, solving the former for both the linear transport cost (which is important in geometric applications) and for the quadratic transport cost (which is central in PDE applications), starting from the solution of the latter for arbitrary transport costs.

Lectures On Optimal Transport written by Luigi Ambrosio and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-22 with Mathematics categories.
This textbook is addressed to PhD or senior undergraduate students in mathematics, with interests in analysis, calculus of variations, probability and optimal transport. It originated from the teaching experience of the first author in the Scuola Normale Superiore, where a course on optimal transport and its applications has been given many times during the last 20 years. The topics and the tools were chosen at a sufficiently general and advanced level so that the student or scholar interested in a more specific theme would gain from the book the necessary background to explore it. After a large and detailed introduction to classical theory, more specific attention is devoted to applications to geometric and functional inequalities and to partial differential equations.

The goal of Optimal Transport (OT) is to define geometric tools that are useful to compare probability distributions. Their use dates back to 1781. Recent years have witnessed a new revolution in the spread of OT, thanks to the emergence of approximate solvers that can scale to sizes and dimensions that are relevant to data sciences. Thanks to this newfound scalability, OT is being increasingly used to unlock various problems in imaging sciences (such as color or texture processing), computer vision and graphics (for shape manipulation) or machine learning (for regression, classification and density fitting). This monograph reviews OT with a bias toward numerical methods and their applications in data sciences, and sheds lights on the theoretical properties of OT that make it particularly useful for some of these applications. Computational Optimal Transport presents an overview of the main theoretical insights that support the practical effectiveness of OT before explaining how to turn these insights into fast computational schemes. Written for readers at all levels, the authors provide descriptions of foundational theory at two-levels. Generally accessible to all readers, more advanced readers can read the specially identified more general mathematical expositions of optimal transport tailored for discrete measures. Furthermore, several chapters deal with the interplay between continuous and discrete measures, and are thus targeting a more mathematically-inclined audience. This monograph will be a valuable reference for researchers and students wishing to get a thorough understanding of Computational Optimal Transport, a mathematical gem at the interface of probability, analysis and optimization.

Optimal Transport For Applied Mathematicians written by Filippo Santambrogio and has been published by Birkhäuser this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-17 with Mathematics categories.
This monograph presents a rigorous mathematical introduction to optimal transport as a variational problem, its use in modeling various phenomena, and its connections with partial differential equations. Its main goal is to provide the reader with the techniques necessary to understand the current research in optimal transport and the tools which are most useful for its applications. Full proofs are used to illustrate mathematical concepts and each chapter includes a section that discusses applications of optimal transport to various areas, such as economics, finance, potential games, image processing and fluid dynamics. Several topics are covered that have never been previously in books on this subject, such as the Knothe transport, the properties of functionals on measures, the Dacorogna-Moser flow, the formulation through minimal flows with prescribed divergence formulation, the case of the supremal cost, and the most classical numerical methods. Graduate students and researchers in both pure and applied mathematics interested in the problems and applications of optimal transport will find this to be an invaluable resource.

Enumerative Combinatorics Volume 2 written by Richard Stanley and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-17 with Mathematics categories.
Richard Stanley's two-volume basic introduction to enumerative combinatorics has become the standard guide to the topic for students and experts alike. This thoroughly revised second edition of volume two covers the composition of generating functions, in particular the exponential formula and the Lagrange inversion formula, labelled and unlabelled trees, algebraic, D-finite, and noncommutative generating functions, and symmetric functions. The chapter on symmetric functions provides the only available treatment of this subject suitable for an introductory graduate course and focusing on combinatorics, especially the Robinson–Schensted–Knuth algorithm. An appendix by Sergey Fomin covers some deeper aspects of symmetric functions, including jeu de taquin and the Littlewood–Richardson rule. The exercises in the book play a vital role in developing the material, and this second edition features over 400 exercises, including 159 new exercises on symmetric functions, all with solutions or references to solutions.

Gradient Flows written by Luigi Ambrosio and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-10-29 with Mathematics categories.
The book is devoted to the theory of gradient flows in the general framework of metric spaces, and in the more specific setting of the space of probability measures, which provide a surprising link between optimal transportation theory and many evolutionary PDE's related to (non)linear diffusion. Particular emphasis is given to the convergence of the implicit time discretization method and to the error estimates for this discretization, extending the well established theory in Hilbert spaces. The book is split in two main parts that can be read independently of each other.

Harmonic Functions And Random Walks On Groups written by Ariel Yadin and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-31 with Mathematics categories.
Research in recent years has highlighted the deep connections between the algebraic, geometric, and analytic structures of a discrete group. New methods and ideas have resulted in an exciting field, with many opportunities for new researchers. This book is an introduction to the area from a modern vantage point. It incorporates the main basics, such as Kesten's amenability criterion, Coulhon and Saloff-Coste inequality, random walk entropy and bounded harmonic functions, the Choquet–Deny Theorem, the Milnor–Wolf Theorem, and a complete proof of Gromov's Theorem on polynomial growth groups. The book is especially appropriate for young researchers, and those new to the field, accessible even to graduate students. An abundance of examples, exercises, and solutions encourage self-reflection and the internalization of the concepts introduced. The author also points to open problems and possibilities for further research.
