Based on the drivers of the development of logistics, the success factors of logistics management in excellent companies are analyzed. Logistics management in and between companies requires a change in thinking on the operational as well as on the strategic and normative level of action. The functions of logistics management are explained in detail and discussed with regard to their design. The explanations are based on the presentation of the interplay of the normative, strategic and operational levels of action and the contribution of logistics to the achievement of corporate objectives. Essential building blocks for the implementation of the logistics concept are strategic logistics planning and logistics controlling. In addition to the organizational and operational issues, supply chain management is becoming increasingly important for the interorganizational realization of the logistics concept: because it is precisely from cooperation and collaboration that additional potential for sustainable value enhancement of the company through logistics arises. In order to exploit these potentials, it is important to promote suitable employees in a targeted manner. Therefore, the book concludes with a consideration of the special aspects of personnel management in logistics. On the one hand, the book addresses the practitioner who wants to profitably implement the concepts presented here. On the other hand, it is aimed at lecturers at universities, colleges and academies to support their courses. Students who are interested in the management-related issues of logistics will receive valuable information for their studies and future professional activities.

Jahrzehnten erheblich verändert. So entwickelte sie sich von einer ausführungsorientierten Dienstleistungsfunktion zu einem Führungskonzept, dessen Denk- und Gestaltungsmuster in allen Unternehmensbereichen Anwendung finden können, und sie erreichte somit zentrale Bedeutung für das Unternehmen bzw. den Unternehmenserfolg. Die Tatsache, dass vor allem amerikanischen Studien zu Folge der Anteil der Logistikkosten am Brutto-inlandsprodukt fällt, ist mit dem in den USA verbreitetem Fokus der Logistik auf klassische operative Funktionen wie Transport zu erklären1, in denen Effizienzsteigerungen z.B. durch den Einsatz moderner Informations- und Kommunikations- systeme die Logistikkosten gemindert haben.2Allerdings stellt generell die Logistik durch die stetige Ausweitung ihrer Aufgaben im Sinne des oben erwähnten Bedeutungs-wandel und durch die Globalisierung der Beschaffungs-, Produktions- und Absatzmärkte einen immer wichtiger werdenden Teil im Unternehmen dar. So beträgt der Logistik-Kosten-Anteil durchschnittlich 16 % der Gesamtkosten bei deutschen Unternehmen.3Wie man ihre Bedeutung genauer messen kann und wie groß der Beitrag der Logistik zum Unternehmenserfolg wirklich ist, soll die vorliegende Arbeit anhand bereits vorhandener Überlegungen und empirischer Studien aufzeigen. Zum besseren Verständnis werden in dieser Arbeit zunächst die unterschiedlichen Logistiksichtweisen bzw. der Bedeutungswandel des Logistikbegriffs erläutert und die Aufgaben der Logistik bzw. des Supply Chain Managements im Unternehmen näher beschrieben. Dieses ist unter Anderem in sofern wichtig, als dass unterschiedliche Definitionen der Logistik z.B. einen Einfluss auf die in den Logistikkosten erfassten Kosten haben können. Des Weiteren sind die für diese Arbeit wichtigen Begriffe Logistikerfolg und Unternehmenserfolg zu definieren. Im Folgenden wird dann näher auf die Erfolgswirkung der Logistik eingegangen, wovon sie abhängt und wie man sie messen kann. Dieses geschieht mit Hilfe verschiedener Studien, die verglichen, zusammengefasst und ausgewertet werden.

The research study “Pathway of Digital Transformation in Logistics” deals with today’s logistics challenges, which are increasing speed and the integration of real-time information for data-driven services, implementing new organizational and leadership structures as well as the need for finding approaches for cooperation with new actors such as start-ups or tech companies. Therefore, the study examines four thematic building blocks central to current developments in logistics: technologies, including platforms, and data-driven services as tools and leadership and organization, as well as open innovation as enablers. The research approach is twofold. First, we investigate the four topics by means of an online questionnaire answered by 120 international participants. Second, a Delphi workshop with 32 logistics experts from industry and LSP reveals further evaluations of success factors and barriers for future developments in logistics. The study describes findings how companies move forward on the path of digital transformation towards smart logistics by presenting and discussing best practice concepts and future developments in logistics. Die Forschungsstudie "Pathway of Digital Transformation in Logistics" beschäftigt sich mit aktuellen Herausforderungen in der Logistik: zunehmende Geschwindigkeit und die Integration von Echtzeitdaten für datengetriebene Services, Implementierung neuer Organisations- und Führungsstrukturen sowie die Notwendigkeit, Ansätze für die Zusammenarbeit mit neuen Akteuren wie Start-ups oder Technologieunternehmen zu finden. Daher untersucht die Studie vier thematische Bausteine, die für aktuelle Entwicklungen in der Logistik zentral sind: Technologien, einschließlich Plattformen, und datengesteuerte Services als Werkzeuge und Führung und Organisation sowie Open Innovation als Enabler. Der Forschungsansatz ist zweigeteilt. Zunächst untersuchen wir die vier Themen anhand eines Online-Fragebogens, der von 120 internationalen Teilnehmenden beantwortet wurde. Zweitens ergibt ein Delphi-Workshop mit 32 Logistikexpert/innen aus Industrie und Logistikdienstleistung weitere Erkenntnisse über Barrieren und Erfolgsfaktoren für zukünftige Entwicklungen in der Logistik. Die Studie präsentiert Ergebnisse, wie Unternehmen auf dem Weg der digitalen Transformation zur intelligenten Logistik voranschreiten, indem sie Best-Practice-Konzepte und zukünftige Entwicklungen in der Logistik vorstellt und diskutiert.
