Il n’existe pas de publication qui rassemble les points de vue scientifiques et critiques sur les centres d’hébergement et de soins de longue durée (CHSLD, au Québec) et les établissements d’hébergement pour personnes âgées dépendantes (EHPAD, en France). Pourtant, ces organisations sont depuis longtemps l’objet de vives critiques, notamment dans les médias, à cause du manque de main-d’oeuvre, de services déficients aux résidents ou de la faible qualité des infrastructures. Avec la crise de la COVID-19 subie en 2020, ces critiques semblent trouver, de façon tragique, toute leur justification. Les auteurs de l’ouvrage visent à combler ce manque en présentant une diversité de regards sur la situation de ces organisations. This book draws upon economic and sociological theory to provide a comprehensive discussion of economic space for social innovation, addressing especially marginalized groups and the long-term projects, programmes, and policies that have emerged and evolved within and across European states.It approaches the explanatory and normative questions raised by this topic via a novel approach: the Extended Social Grid Model (ESGM). Taking inspiration from the fields of economic sociology and ethics, this model shows that social innovation processes must be structural, and require change inpower relations, if marginalization is to be effectively dealt with via social innovation.Part I of the book sets out the ESGM, including an exposition on the model along with background chapters on innovation, power and marginalization, ethics and social innovation, and empirical methods. Part II explores the model with a focus on social innovation trajectories of social housing,drinking water provision, employment, education, and food provision. With marriage in decline, divorce on the rise, the demise of the nuclear family, and the increase in marriages and adoptions among same-sex partners, it is clear that the structures of kinship in the modern West are in a state of flux. In The Metamorphoses of Kinship, the world-renowned anthropologist Maurice Godelier contextualizes these developments, surveying the accumulated experience of humanity with regard to such phenomena as the organization of lines of descent, sexuality and sexual prohibitions. In parallel, Godelier studies the evolution of Western conjugal and familial traditions from their roots in the nineteenth century to the present. The conclusion he draws is that it is never the case that a man and a woman are sufficient on their own to raise a child, and nowhere are relations of kinship or the family the keystone of society. Godelier argues that the changes of the last thirty years do not herald the disappearance or death agony of kinship, but rather its remarkable metamorphosis—one that, ironically, is bringing us closer to the “traditional” societies studied by ethnologists.
