English summary: Originating from the American organisational studies the neoinstitutionalist organisational theory is one of the foremost organisational theories. At the centre of this approach lies social embeddedness of Organisations as well as the important role of the social and cultural environment for the legitimacy of organisational structures and practices of management. The book gives a comprehensive introduction to the basics of neoinstitutionalist organisational theory. Results of the empirical research as well as conceptual developments of the approach are introduced and discussed. Using contemporary problems the varying positions within neoinstitutionalism, potential links to other organisational theories and the range of possible research methods are pointed out and discussed. In this book Professor Beckmann, with considerable ingenuity, offers a mathematical analysis of productive organizations in the widest sense. Starting with descriptive features he builds up, step by step, production functions, profiting from the rigor of a set of axioms or assumptions and their logical implications. Among the organizations studied hierarchies play a predominant role and are compared with such forms of cooperation as partnerships and "ladders". A number of well-known basic concepts such as span of control, rank, line vs. staff and others serve as starting points. His analysis leads to such refinements as balanced, regular or degenerated organization patterns and interesting comparisons of the efficiency of various structures. Empirical verification of the axioms or assumptions is not the objective chosen by the author--except a few concrete illustra tions--but the book constitutes an excellent basis for such research. Several of the results obtained take simpler forms for very large hierarchies. The renewed interest, shown in political discussions, in the bureaucratization of both large enterprises and government machinery makes Dr. Beckmann's work highly topical. Discussions (by Bahro) of the GDR and by many other authors of Japanese management as compared with American or western European are cases in point. Some additional variables may then have to be added, of a psychological nature: for instance satisfaction from work or irritation evoked by excessive supervision.

For Formal Organization written by Paul Du Gay and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Business & Economics categories.

This book focuses on the state of Organization Theory, its purpose, object, and practical relevance. In recent years, disquiet has mounted within the field of organizational analysis, broadly defined, about the overly theoretical and a-or anti-organizational state of Organization Theory and its consequent lack of practical purchase, not least in the light of pressing economic, social and political concerns that are often profoundly organizational in nature. The book argues that predominant contemporary modes of theorising within the field, and in particular the stance associated with them, have had the effect of occluding and dissolving Organization Theory's core object - formal organization - and, as a consequence, dissipating its practical focus and reach. The book seeks to contribute to the goal of reviving Organization Theory as a practical science of organizing and rehabilitating its core object -formal organization - through a re-examination and re-assessment of the outlook, comportment and attitude - stance - animating its classical antecedents. This ambition is double edged. For not only does it seek to revive Organization Theory through reconnecting it with the practical orientation framing classical organizational analysis, it also seeks to indicate how the historic products of that orientation or stance still have considerable traction for analysing and intervening in contemporary matters of organizational concern. Not least, this 'classical organizational stance' provides those who adopt it with a method with which to orient themselves both in formal organizational thought and in formal organizational life. It furnishes them with an ethos combining both practical rationality and ethical seriousness. In this sense the book suggest itself both as a guide to doing Organizational analysis and doing practical organization
