Relationships abound in the library and information science (LIS) world. Those relationships may be social in nature, as, for instance, when we deal with human relationships among library personnel or relationships (i. e. , "public relations") between an information center and its clientele. The relationships may be educational, as, for example, when we examine the relationship between the curriculum of an accredited school and the needs of the work force it is preparing students to join. Or the relationships may be economic, as when we investigate the relationship between the cost of journals and the frequency with which they are cited. Many of the relationships of concern to us reflect phenomena entirely internal to the field: the relationship between manuscript collections, archives, and special collections; the relationship between end user search behavior and the effectiveness of searches; the relationship between access to and use of information resources; the relationship between recall and precision; the relationship between various bibliometric laws; etc. The list of such relationships could go on and on. The relationships addressed in this volume are restricted to those involved in the organization of recorded knowledge, which tend to have a conceptual or semantic basis, although statistical means are sometimes used in their discovery.

In "Social Organization," Charles Horton Cooley presents a profound analysis of the structures that bind human societies together. Adopting a sociological lens, Cooley intricately weaves theoretical discourse with vivid examples from everyday life, exploring the dynamics of primary and secondary groups. The literary style is characterized by its clarity and accessibility, making complex social theories engaging for both scholars and lay readers. Positioned within early 20th-century American sociology, this work reflects Cooley's belief in the importance of interpersonal relationships and their role in shaping social organization, laying the groundwork for future sociological inquiry. Charles Horton Cooley (1864-1929) was a prominent American sociologist and a key figure in the development of symbolic interactionism. His educational background, coupled with his experiences in community settings, fostered his keen interest in how individuals form social connections and collective identities. Cooley's pioneering ideas on the 'looking-glass self' and group dynamics found fertile ground in this book, showcasing his drive to understand the essence of social life and its implications on individual behavior. "Social Organization" is an essential read for anyone looking to comprehend the foundational principles of sociology and social interaction. Cooley's insights remain relevant in today's complex social landscape, making this work a vital resource for students, scholars, and anyone intrigued by the intricate web of human relationships and societal structures.

Teacher Education Policy written by Rob McBride and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-12-16 with Education categories.

To improve schools we need to improve teachers. This volume provides recent research evidence that suggests that current education policy is not Promoting Effective Teacher Education And That Teacher Education Policy has: failed to support the formation of professional partnerships in initial teacher education; has almost ignored the induction of newly qualified teachers; and has narrowed in-service education into support for the implementation of central policy.; The evidence gathered in this book is used to argue for new forms of teacher education in every phase, built upon the foundation of professional partnership between schools and institutions of higher education. It is suggested that the funding for such changes could be drawn from less effective forms of school improvement, such as National Curriculum development and school inspection. With the implementation of such changes, it is argued, good quality teacher education programmes would prosper and foster a broad concensus about educational development that is often absent.
