Esta obra está vinculada a um projeto maior, intitulado "A Constituição dos Saberes Elementares Matemáticos: A Aritmética, a Geometria e o Desenho no curso primário em perspectiva histórico-comparativa, (1890-1970)" desenvolvido pelo Grupo de Pesquisa em História da Educação Matemática no Brasil (Ghemat). O objetivo foi investigar sobre os saberes elementares matemáticos presentes em provas de concursos para professores primários em Sergipe, no período de 1874 a 1924. A relevância desse tema pode ser justificada pelo fato de que, até o momento desta pesquisa, não foram localizados no âmbito do projeto maior, investigações que tratassem do tema saberes elementares matemáticos a partir de provas. Apresenta recorte de provas de concurso, com comentários e observações que sugerem uma análise mais detalhada dos conteúdos, tipos de provas e saberes elementares matemáticos contemplados. It shows the relationship between the Principles and Malthus's other writings and activities as a political economist. There is also an editorial commentary that aims to explain the significance and origin of the alterations.
