Tra i dodici profeti minori quello che suscita maggiori curiosità per le vicende di cui è protagonista è sicuramente Osea, il profeta che riceve da Dio il compito di sposare una prostituta, Gomer, per generare da lei una progenie. Dall'unione con la donna nascono tre figli. In seguito Gomer, tornando alle antiche abitudini, tradisce Osea e lo abbandona. Le disgrazie matrimoniali del profeta, narrate nei primi tre capitoli del libro, sono la chiara allusione ai tradimenti del popolo di Israele nei confronti di Dio, cioè alle continue trasgressioni dell'alleanza stipulata ai piedi del Sinai. Il commento di Girolamo in tre libri è un'originale fusione di componenti di origine varia: tradizione rabbinica, esegesi patristica (Origene su tutti) e cultura classica profana. Girolamo parte dal confronto condotto versetto per versetto tra la propria traduzione dall'ebraico e quella dei Settanta e fa spesso ampio ricorso agli Hexempla di Origene, applicando scrupolosamente i procedimenti della filologia di allora. Tuttavia non si limita ad una mera apologia della propria versione biblica, ma fornisce una puntuale interpretazione attuata su un doppio livello, l'uno storico-letterale e l'altro allegorico, senza sacrificare il primo al secondo.

La quinta e ultima tappa del progetto culturale “Per una nuova traduzione ecumenica commentata dei vangeli”, ideato dall’Associazione Biblica della Svizzera Italiana. Per una conoscenza dei testi biblici che cerchi di essere intelligente e appassionata, occorre stabilire dei solidi “ponti” tra una lettura che analizzi e interpreti i testi, per quanto possibile, nei loro significati originari, e la vita e la cultura di oggi, senza fondamentalismi culturali o religiosi. Nel quadro del progetto culturale “Per una nuova traduzione ecumenica commentata dei vangeli”, ideato dall’Associazione Biblica della Svizzera Italiana, questo volume – una nuova traduzione ecumenica commentata degli Atti degli Apostoli – è la quinta e ultima tappa del progetto, sviluppo conclusivo delle prime quattro. L’intero progetto è pensato per accompagnare l’attività formativa di tante persone nella Chiesa (nelle parrocchie, nei gruppi, nei movimenti, nelle associazioni di qualsiasi orientamento). Esso intende anche sostenere la volontà di singole persone che vogliano approfondire temi, contenuti e valori, che possono interpellare intensamente il cuore, la mente, la vita di chiunque. Gezabele è un personaggio poco conosciuto e spesso considerato uno dei più negativi dell’Antico Testamento. Eppure la storia di questa regina straniera parla ancora a noi oggi, invitandoci a riflettere su argomenti di grande attualità, come, ad esempio, il rapporto tra potere politico e fede, tra sincretismo e adorazione del Dio unico. Forse preferiremmo distogliere lo sguardo da figure come queste, considerando, a torto, la Bibbia come un libro edificante. Invece la regina Gezabele, come altri personaggi, ci costringe a confrontarci con la no- stra umanità, che spesso è ambigua o non di specchiata virtù come vorremmo che fosse. Anche in questo modo, però, la Parola di Dio ci educa e ci spinge alla conversione.

Die handschriftlich überlieferte Literatur der griechisch-römischen Antike war der ständigen Gefahr fremder, vom jeweiligen Verfasser nicht autorisierter Textverfälschungen ausgesetzt. Dabei bediente sich der verantwortliche Bearbeiter der Mittel der Interpolation, der Tilgung, der ändernden Ersatzfassung sowie der Transposition und griff nicht bloß in einzelne Stellen des Originals ein, sondern unterzog es nicht selten einer regelrechten Gesamtrezension oder epitomierte es zu einer verkürzten Ausgabe. Auch in der Übersetzungsliteratur lassen sich ähnliche Vorgänge nachweisen, etwa dann, wenn vor der Übertragung eines fremdsprachigen Buchs in eine andere Sprache der Text ohne Einwilligung des ursprünglichen Verfassers verändert wurde. Die Verfasser jedoch, also die Betroffenen selbst, verurteilten aus einem ausgeprägten Autorbewußtsein heraus die sekundäre Manipulation ihrer Werke als anmaßenden Anschlag auf die Integrität des echten Wortlauts. Während sie nur ausgewählten Kritikern erlaubten, vor der Publikation ein Urteil über den Text abzugeben, richteten sie an das Publikum die unmißverständliche Warnung, ihn nach der Publikation zu verfälschen.

Choleriker mit misanthropischen Zügen, militanter Propagandist des asketischen Ideals, vielseitiger und produktiver Schriftsteller, Sprachgenie, fleißiger Übersetzer und origineller Wissenschaftler – all diese Beschreibungen treffen auf den Kirchenvater Hieronymus (347–419) zu. Hieronymus war ein Exzentriker. Er stammte aus der Provinz, machte in den Metropolen der spätantiken Welt (Rom, Konstantinopel, Antiochia) Karriere, kehrte in der zweiten Lebenshälfte aber wieder in die Provinz, diesmal nach Bethlehem in Palästina, zurück. Aufgrund seiner hebräischen Sprachkenntnisse vermochte er als einziger Theologe seiner Zeit, der christlichen Exegese jüdisches Bibelwissen zu erschließen. Alfons Fürst beschreibt die theologischen Kontroversen, in die Hieronymus im Laufe seines spannungsreichen Lebens verwickelt war (Arianismus, Origenismus, Pelagianismus), erörtert seinen Beitrag zur Verbreitung der christlichen-asketischen Lebensform besonders unter Frauen der römischen Aristokratie und stellt seine innovativen wissenschaftlichen Leistungen als Übersetzer und Ausleger der Bibel dar. Die vielfältigen sozialen Beziehungen, in denen Hieronymus lebte, treten erstmals in Form einer Prosopographie lebendig vor Augen. Ausgewählte Texte (lateinisch-deutsch) gewähren einen unmittelbaren Einblick in sein Arbeiten.
