Although several Orthodox theologians have significantly enhanced the development of Ecclesiology in the twentieth century, the contribution of Archbishop Stylianos Harkianakis, Primate of the greek Orthodox CHurch in Austrlia, remains, without doubt, a landmark in the history of that theological field today. Essentially the authors consideration of the Church is that it is the most intimate and graced communion not only of human persons but of the entire created cosmos bonded together in a wondrous relationship with the uncreated God. Dieses Miteinander wird in unseren Zeiten des schwindenden Konfessionsbewusstseins der christlich Getauften in sich weiter säkularisierenden, pluralistisch-integrierenden gesellschaftlichen Umfeldern immer bedeutender. So besuchen z.B. Schweizer Katholiken in der Diaspora immer mehr evangelisch-reformierte Sonntagsgottesdienste, wenn infolge Priestermangels in ihrer (Pfarr-)Kirche sonntags keine Messe gelesen wird, in der Überzeugung gemeinsamen Christseins. Die individuell-konkret gelebte Ökumene eilt der institutionellen dabei entsprechend weitgehend theologisch unreflektiert voraus. Diese Entwicklungen stellen die kirchlichen Amtsträger und die akademische Theologie immer wieder von Neuem vor die weitreichend-tiefgehende Herausforderung, sich um die Einheit der Kirchen und kirchlichen Gemeinschaften sowie die Einheit der Christen noch intensiver zu bemühen. Die vorliegende Annäherung an die Theologie der Ökumene im Rahmen einer theologischen Proseminararbeit referiert zunächst in zusammenfassender Form den Aufsatz der evangelisch-lutherischen Theologin Ulrike Link-Wieczorek „Die Wahrheit in zerbrechlichen Gefässen: Theologie als ökumenische Theologie“. Das darin angesprochene Thema einer Kircheneinheit als Ökumeneziel wird daraufhin wegen seiner elementaren Bedeutung für alle Ökumene infolge Jesu Christi Geheiss zur Einheit aller (vgl. Joh 17,21) näher diskutiert.
