We've made following Jesus far too complex. We don't know what to do with all the things in the Bible that seem necessary, so we make them into a to-do list: love others, forgive those who hurt you, have joy, be patient, stay faithful, give to the hurting, serve in your church, pray without ceasing, confess your sins, and on and on. These are all great things, but is a checklist really what Jesus intended when he said, "Follow me"? More than two thousand years ago, the prophet Micah implored Israel to return to its true calling: "Act justly, love mercy, walk humbly with your God." Could this plainspoken Bible verse not only sum up how we should live today but breathe a fresh purpose into our souls? In this practical and freeing book, pastor Rusty George shares the simplicity of what God desires from us. Living a faithful life should not be a chore, and George teaches how to put away our checklists and walk humbly according to God's will for our lives.

The issues of the poor and oppressed in this world are not removed from our worship of God. In fact, to serve the poor is to worship. When we capture God's heart for the poor and broken, we begin to move toward action through worship. In The Justice God Is Seeking, David Ruis explores how drawing near to God softens our hearts and opens us up to the need for salvation that is all around us. Worship and compassion are linked in the Scriptures, and they must be woven throughout our lives. Here is a passionate exhortation to love like Jesus loves and to experience worship that is touched by brokenness and a longing for things to be set right. Therein lies the justice God is seeking.

For Jesus, truth and mercy went hand in hand. Where he preached he also healed. He didn't outsource one or the other to biblical scholars or nonprofit ministries. He presented the truth of the gospel through his words and his actions, and he did it all in a hands-on, relational way. And the reaction was the same wherever he went--people were amazed. Today we seem to have lost this powerful pattern of self-giving love, focusing on truth at the expense of mercy or on mercy at the expense of truth, and often failing to build genuine, lasting relationships with the people around us. In The God Impulse, Jack Alexander helps us recover Jesus's model, showing through biblical and modern real-life stories that God's first impulse toward us is mercy. He then sets forth a pattern for us to follow--to see, go, do, and endure--that not only spreads truth and love to those around us who are suffering but also causes them to gasp in amazement and consider the claims of the gospel for themselves.

A radical call to take justice more seriously and to offer mercy more lavishly. We live in a world that craves justice. But what transforms us to truly seek justice, even at cost to ourselves? And what enables us to do so in a way that also offers mercy? Stephen Um opens up the book of Micah, showing how God’s call to his people then is God’s call to his people now-a call to so enjoy the gospel that we are freed to seek true justice and offer real mercy. This minor prophet is a voice for our times. This Expository Guide takes you verse by verse through the text in an accessible and applied way. It is less academic than a traditional commentary and can be read cover-to-cover, used in personal devotions, used to lead small group studies, or used for sermon preparation. There is an accompanying Good Book Guide for small group Bible studies.

As Christians, how do we live in a world full of injustice, cruelty, and self-glorification? You might be asking yourself, "What is required of me?" "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6.8).This book explores the biblical topics of justice, mercy, and humility through thoughtful reflections written by urban pastors. We invite you to use the reflections, prayers, and discussion questions to draw you into a deeper understanding of what it means "to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." The words in this book provide hope and guidance as we seek to be salt and light in our world.Whether you use this book for individual study or a group Bible study, may you be encouraged, challenged, and inspired!

Many great books have been written about God over the years that teach us about His nature. Others have written inspirational books to motivate us to strive for a closer personal relationship with our Creator. Despite having unprecedented access to scripture, as well as the great books which have already been written, the church of today has developed a skewed understanding of God. Many have come to regard God as an Old Man somewhere in the heavens whose primary desire is for His creation to live in comfort and happiness without regard to our sinful state. In many corners, the church has become a social club where like-minded people get together to be entertained. In other corners of Christianity, the focus is on financial prosperity. The real biblical teaching of who God is, what He expects of His creation, and the methods He uses to transform His people into His image does not sell many books, nor does it fill the half-empty churches of our time. The purpose of my books is to present to the readers the God of the Bible. He is the God of love, but He is also the God of justice. He is a God of grace, but He is also a God of vengeance. He is a God of mercy, but He is also the consuming fire. Christianity is not a new religion; it is a story of the fulfillment of promises made to the Jewish people. The God of the new covenant is also the God of the Mosaic covenant. My desire is to remind the church that she belongs to a jealous God who will fight for her and do what is necessary to present her to Himself as a chaste bride, without spot and blemish and one who is separated from this world. Relying on the imagery and symbolism of the entire Bible, I reveal (to the best of my understanding) God’s plan for the church as described in the book of Revelation. My desire is that this book will serve to sound an alarm for the church to awake from its slumber and to prepare her for spiritual warfare.
