From a variety of methodological perspectives, contributors to Living on the Land explore the nature and scope of Indigenous women’s knowledge, its rootedness in relationships, both human and spiritual, and its inseparability from land and landscape. The authors discuss the integral role of women as stewards of the land and governors of the community and points to a distinctive set of challenges and possibilities for Indigenous women and their communities.

Excerpt from Our Living Land There was so much land, there seemed no end to its bounty. Men killed off the buffalo and then the passenger pigeon, cut over the forest and let the sunlight in to dry up the swamp, plowed the new ground and called it prog ress. Then somebody missed the wind whispering through the pine trees and stopped to wonder. Crops failed, springs dried up, gullies scarred the hillsides and the rivers ran muddy red. The Living Land sets out a new 'stakeholder' vision for rural regeneration in Europe. It integrates three themes: sustainable agriculture, localised food systems and rural community development. All three offer ways of rebuilding natural and social capital, and a large 'sustainability dividend' is waiting to be released from current practices - creating more jobs, more wealth and better lives from less.

Living Off The Land written by Dale McMillan and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-09 with Fiction categories.

McMillan blends real life experiences with imagination to weave a story of an independent backwoods “country boy” who meets a sophisticated “city girl”. Follow their lives, sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, as two families try to mesh. The book is typical of East Texas Piney Woods during the early 1940s through the war years. Rex Horn meets Mary Ann Anderson on a trying journey with his science and math teacher to Detroit Michigan. Their mission is to pick up a new school bus chassis to replace that of a worn out school bus. Mary Ann and her mother are on the train, and she and Rex meet. The two young people are immediately smitten and intrigued by the other’s lifestyle. Mary Ann visits Rex at his rustic, pioneer type home, nestled in a remote section of an area known as The Big Thicket in the southern part of East Texas. Mary Ann is intrigued by Rex’s parents who, unlike her parents, are uneducated but respected and leaders in the Foggy Bottom Community. Martha Horn, Rex’s mother and Beth Horn, his sister, are both dynamic women who teach Mary Ann life skills necessary to live off the land. Rex’s encounter with a panther, while trapping in the Neches river bottom, add spice to the story and peak Mary Ann’s interest. Many of the tales related in this story are true, and are written as they happened; others are embellished. The reader will have fun trying to separate facts from fiction.

I strive to create an example of all that I can be so that others in my situation can see disability for what it is. Disability does not separate me from anyone. All people are disabled, and only some are temporarily enabled. Everyone will age. Everyone will need a little help. If people understand this, then all are equal. - Thomas Thomas is a brilliant student, an advocate for people with special needs, and a loving son and brother. He has a rare form of muscular dystrophy that over a short time leaves him completely, physically helpless. He cannot roll over, swat away flies, or feed himself, and he requires 24/7 care. But despite his daily challenges, Thomas never lets his disability get in the way. Always quick with a joke, he’s eternally optimistic, finds the positive in any situation, and looks out for those around him, trying to make their day better. In Living in the Land of the Uprights, Thomas’s mother, Kathy, recounts Thomas’s journey as their family faces uphill battles navigating doctor’s appointments, visits to emergency rooms, advocating for funding, and fighting for equal rights for Thomas. A close-knit family, they celebrate successes and support each other through heartbreak. In his time on earth, Thomas faces the world on his terms and wows everyone he encounters, never taking no for an answer and lobbying to move across the country to follow his dream. He and his family have no idea of the powerful impact he will have and how he will change so many lives. When you read this book, not only will you feel the pure blissful passion of Thomas’s life story, but you will also learn how to leave a legacy that will live forever as Thomas has done ... through kindness, perseverance, and humour.
