Our New World of Adult Bullies connects the dots to show how bullies at all levels of society follow the same predictable patterns of behavior. Bullies exist everywhere: families, workplaces, neighborhoods and communities, politics and government, and organizations of all types and sizes. And in a media landscape where conflict, crisis, chaos, and fear reign supreme, every day we see the worst behavior of celebrities, politicians, and other public figures who serve as role models. Winners and losers. Friends and enemies. Heroes and villains. People with high-conflict personalities think almost solely in these extremes. They regularly express unmanaged emotions, routinely blame others, and do harmful things that 90% of people would never do. Bullies share these characteristics, plus a drive to dominate or destroy their victims. But all bullies act in the same highly predictable patterns, regardless of their demographics and situation. By focusing on the ten hidden powers bullies employ—from their unrestrained nature and bully story to manipulating emotions and playing the victim—Bill Eddy unpacks the way bullies rely on primitive emotions and nonverbal behavior. He helps readers spot these behaviors and offers practical actions before they become immobilized by helplessness, blame, and shame. In today’s world, we all may have an adult bully in our lives sooner or later. For anyone who has a bully in their life now, for professionals who counsel victims of bullying, and for anyone who is concerned about the fraying of our culture and society, this book gives effective strategies to prevent bullies from taking over. Eddy’s six-step approach includes useful advice on how to: Recognize the patterns of bully behavior Pull the plug on the bully’s story Set limits with credible threats Impose serious consequences Communicate effectively about bullies to others Stand strong with others against bullies Our New World of Adult Bullies takes a closer look at the dangerous behavior of bullies and how to stop the behavior before it starts.

Who knew wearing a red hat could cause such trouble? "My Red Hat" is a modern anti-bullying story with a twist. For Piper and her father Rick, what was a fun-filled day, and an ordinary trip to the store changes quickly when a bully is triggered by the sight of matching hats. They have to think fast and act smart. Else, they stand a chance of being the subject of the latest viral video to be passed around online. Intended to be a work of fiction, this type of behavior between adults bullying children is an increasingly modern reality. Using a layered approach to storytelling, "My Red Hat" is designed to provide discussion opportunities between children and parents. As serious as it is entertaining, this anti-bullying children's book serves as an early detection if a child is being bullied, has been a witness to others being bullied, or if the child has been taking on the role of a bully. We live in a very digital world, and the rules have changed. One wrong move in public can be a big problem, edited down to a few seconds of video, with no context of what happened before or after. We owe it to children to teach smart approaches to navigate the world. We owe it to adults to remind them to take the high road, control their impulses, and be a role model. Too many adults are seeking their 15 minutes of fame, even if it's at the expense of a child. We hope this type of behavior between adults bullying children is a modern fade. Until that changes, it is essential to ensure kids are equipped with the skills to recognize bullies living in bubbles, along with acquiring the confidence to make smart decisions on what to do next. Using a layered approach to storytelling, "My Red Hat" is an entertaining take, on a serious topic. Designed to provide discussion opportunities between children and adults, this anti-bullying children's book serves as an early detection if a child is being bullied, has been a witness to others being bullied, or if the child has been taking on the role of a bully. We owe it to children to teach smart approaches to navigate the world. We owe it to adults to remind them to take the high road, control their impulses, and be a role model. Too many adults are seeking their 15 minutes of fame, even if it's at the expense of a child. The bully in our story is a work of fiction. However, stories of adult bullies trying to trap and record others in an effort to shame and post a video online seem to be a modern trend that repeats itself every few weeks. One wrong move in public can be a big problem, edited down to a few seconds of video, with no context of what happened before or after. The way the story uses imagery is covert. Some will see this as political humor. That's not the intent. Regardless of your political affiliation, most adults can find value in using a red hat as an example. They either view the red hat as a metaphor to not bully a person because of his/her appearance or as a more direct example that highlights modern concerns that parents have towards bullies in the digital age. While many adults will enjoy the storyline, ultimately children are the audience. Young children are taught about the importance of tolerance towards others different than them. In early reviews, children have universally seen the bully as a villain with behavior that is inappropriate. And while parents and other family members of these children may have a very different view of the bully, and at the extreme end some will believe the young girl was 'asking for it,' it gives us great hope that children reject the bully, and side with Piper for her freedom to wear the red hat of her choice. Children see Piper's choice to wear a red hat as something that should be respected. We agree 100%.

An explosion of research on bullying has raised our collective awareness of the serious impacts it can have on children. No longer do we accept it as an innocuous rite of passage, just a part of growing up that we grin and bear and grow out of later. But do we grow out of it, or are there lingering effects that last well beyond the school playgrounds and lunchrooms? Is bullying traumatic and, if so, does it last into adult life? Are there life-long consequences or are the effects pretty much shed as people grow? Are some of us more resilient than others? Are there any positive or unexpected outcomes as a result of being bullied (or having been a bully) as a child? In an effort to answer these questions, Bullying Scars describes childhood bullying from the vantage point of those victims, bullies, and bystanders who are now adults; the book discusses how lives have been changed, and explores the range of reactions adults exhibit. The research gathered for this book, through interviews with over 800 people, points out that even adult decision-making is often altered by the victimization they experience as children at the hands of peers, siblings, parents, or educators. Written in an engaging and accessible style that draws heavily from the rich interview data that deLara has collected, this book will be of interest to anyone struggling with the lingering effects of being bullied. Additionally, it is highly relevant to mental health professionals -- counselors, therapists, social workers, clinical psychologists -- working with clients who are dealing with these issues.

Back Page I cry every day before and after school because I have been a victim of bullying for most of my life. I had the misconception that once I reached middle school that I would be free from being [a] victim. Wow! Was I wrong [!] I am now a 7th grader and the torture continues. I suffered in silence until I met Ms. Smart; I feel some level of comfort because she let us know that she does not tolerate bullying in her classroom. Like many others I tried to commit suicide by jumping out of a window of a three-story building. I am also a cutter. I want to live but how? –Seventh-grade student Unfortunately, stories like that of this middle school student are all too common. The social pressures of bullying can lead to intolerable unpleasantness for some students. Bullying in schools is a growing concern in the United States. Bullying causes many problems, not only for the victim, but also for the bully. Students desire a safe haven at home and school; however, problems with bullies lead to insecurity in the victim and make home and school feel more like a prison than the safe haven they are supposed to be. Bullying via the Internet or cyberbullying is steadily increasing. A bully can harass someone via text, email or hurtful comments on a social network site. This has led to a whole new breed of bullying. A bully no longer has to be face to face. He/she can now say harmful things about a person through the Internet for others to read and comment. No matter how it is looked at, bullying is wrong. It’s never okay. It’s never cool. It never makes one person look better than another because they are bullying someone. This book offer strategies as to what to do if one should find themselves as a victim of bullying behavior as well as if you happen to be the bully. Also covered are tips for parents, teachers and community members.

Are you the bully's main target? This is an excellent book exposing the business world's darkest, and best kept secrets around. Targeted Exposed is a true story about a man whose life and career became ruined by a very aggressive workplace bully, who used deformation of character, a lot of hostility, and made any company he was working for or visiting at into a hostile work environment. This not only created a lot of emotion and undue stress to his victim, but also to all the witnesses he came in contact with as well. This book documents what a horrific and destructive bully, who first acted as Bob's best friend and then later suddenly turned on him in the office where he worked. Out of no fault of Bob, the bully began his reign of terror in the workplace back in 2005. He continued with his bullying tactics, defaming Bob, every chance he got, to the point where Bob lost his last job in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in January 2013. This bully actually kept tabs on Bob, following him as he worked around the country, doing his bullying, defamation of character, and other harassment techniques in several job locations, where Bob found work. This is the behavior of a very sick man. That's why Bob calls him a "pathological serial work place bully".Since his Pittsburgh experience, Bob had decided to go on an anti-bully crusade to help others who are currently being bullied in the work place. Bullying is horrible. Adult bullying is much worse, especially in the work place. In many companies workplace politics even allow this to happen and the management continues to cover up this hostile behavior. They need to pull their head out of their butts and make this behavior strictly forbidden, and ensure its banned, and most important condemn and punish those bullies once and for all.No one talks about it or even admits that bullying even exists, but it does. And those who are victimized by this behavior are all good employees who end up either finding work elsewhere, or being terminated. The business world needs to put "STOP BULLYING" as one of their main slogans for their workplace. Bullying ruins lives and in some cases, even kills. So wake up corporate world and realize what you are allowing is simply wrong. There are ways to stop bullying. In Bob's book, he gives the reader many suggestions to help those who are being bullied in school as well as in the workplace. He also discusses as to what all the witnesses should do to help put a swift end to such workplace harassment. These are ways to stop a bully in their tracks and they are discussed in this book.Workplace bullying devastates the lives, careers, and families of millions. In this completely updated new edition, Bob added back in the names and locations of the companies where the bullying actually took place. The names have been changed to protect both the innocent and the guilty. Bob's anti-bully campaign is continuing to grow where he focuses on giving advice and support to other's targeted with Workplace Bullying. Bob's web site: www.bullyproofnetwork.com is filled with bullying information and several links to where the victim can go to for the much needed help and support they need. Stand Up, Fight Back is the story of little 9 year old boy in 4th grade being terrorized by bullies every day. It started on the school bus with verbal taunts by the bullies to all the kids. Everyday they systematically made their way around the bus teasing everyone. When it was my turn for ridicule, I tried to ignore them and hoped they would just go away. Eventually the bullies would push further and be more aggressive with their attacks to get a reaction. As they increased pressure, I would try to retreat further into my dark hole of emptiness to get away. This drove them more and more to hurt me. Eventually I caved and started to cry. It was a huge victory for the bullies to get someone to cry. As months went on the attacks became more frequent and also became physical. They would slap my head, flick my ears, punch and poke me. They would pull my shoes off and even throw them out the bus window. And the bullying made it's way off the bus and into school, the schoolyard and even out in public places. I couldn't get away. This book details the dark plight of bullying and abuse that goes on every day in schools all over the country. You hear all the details about how that little boy was systematically broken down into the darkest lows where his soul could go. I discuss the failures of the system along the way as I was being bullied. From the Bus Driver that saw it all, to the principal that heard first hand from my mother about how I looked getting off the bus being beaten to finally the bully's parents denying any wrong doing of their son. Many adults knew what was going on but none did much about it. I conclude the book with some details on how to fix this epidemic. It won't be easy and we'll never wipe it out completely. But we can take a stand against bullying, but we have to do it together. And we have to start now. The first step begins with the parents and ends with the child being bullied. Stand Up, Fight Back.
