In the years since 1945, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has grown rapidly in terms of both numbers and public prominence. Mormonism is no longer merely a home-grown American religion, confined to the Intermountain West; instead, it has captured the attention of political pundits, Broadway audiences, and prospective converts around the world. While most scholarship on Mormonism concerns its colorful but now well-known early history, the essays in this collection assess recent developments, such as the LDS Church's international growth and acculturation; its intersection with conservative politics in recent decades; its stances on same-sex marriage and the role of women; and its ongoing struggle to interpret its own tumultuous history. The scholars draw on a wide variety of Mormon voices as well as those of outsiders, from Latter-day Saints in Hyderabad, India, to "Mormon Mommy blogs," to evangelical "countercult" ministries.

Unveiling Grace written by Lynn K. Wilder and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08-20 with Religion categories.

A gripping story of how an entire family, deeply enmeshed in Mormonism for thirty years, found their way out and found faith in Jesus Christ. For thirty years, Lynn Wilder, once a tenured faculty member at Brigham Young University, and her family lived in, loved, and promoted the Mormon Church. Then their son Micah, serving his Mormon mission in Florida, had a revelation: God knew him personally. God loved him. And the Mormon Church did not offer the true gospel. Micah's conversion to Christ put the family in a tailspin. They wondered, Have we believed the wrong thing for decades? If we leave Mormonism, what does this mean for our safety, jobs, and relationships? Is Christianity all that different from Mormonism anyway? As Lynn tells her story of abandoning the deception of Mormonism to receive God's grace, she gives a rare look into Mormon culture, what it means to grow up Mormon, and why the contrasts between Mormonism and Christianity make all the difference in the world. Whether you are in the Mormon Church, are curious about Mormonism, or simply are looking for a gripping story, Unveiling Grace will strengthen your faith in the true God who loves you no matter what.

Details can be found at joerawlins.com/press FROM THE KORIHOR ARGUMENT: "Do you know what I think?" Bishop Lambson asked me. "I think that you never had a testimony." Remarkable. A whole life of a man written off in a breath. And by a man with whom I had conversed less than half a dozen times. My whole life as a Mormon dismissed with an actual wave of the hand. Now that we have discussed Sons of Perdition in the previous chapter, the logic should seem obvious that Bishop Lambson wanted to spare me of his endorsement of my testimony for fear that I had denied the Holy Ghost and committed the unpardonable sin. Like most Mormons, he probably wants to believe that I was never one of the people who could have been so enlightened as to be eligible for Outer Darkness. But he does not know that to be the case. A better reason for Lambson's excusing me of ever having fidelity is that it calms his own nerves. He wants the confirmation bias that claims that the only reason that anyone would experience doubts about the Church was because they never attained his knowledge of it or experience with it. That gives him license not to honestly stop and consider the possibility that he is wrong. "Well," I answered, "you don't know me and you don't know my story." Does anyone? I wondered. Does anyone even care? I not only served a mission for this Church, I had suffered for the cause. I had put my name and my family's name to protect an organization that told me that it was normal to doubt its authenticity but that faith must drive me to disregard that doubt. It is difficult to describe the pain of my sacrifice being so summarily dismissed by an ecclesiastical leader.

Don Hydrick opens his soul as he tells his own story of his journey out of Mormonism. Drawn by God's grace, he left the religion he had practiced for 50 years and found freedom in placing his trust in Jesus alone. Not content to keep this joy to himself, he has bravely undertaken this well researched book. His tone is not one of condescension and bitterness, but of gratitude and love. Worth reading! Laurie Schlaepfer Adjunct Professor of World Religions, Western Seminary San Jose I have known Don for several years and have the pleasure of seeing him pursue God and align his faith with truth. His journey to know God has led him to experience grace, freedom and a deep confidence of who he is in Christ. Mormonism can be a bit confusing for many, especially Christians. This book is written extremely well. It explains what a large majority of Mormons believe about God and the Bible but does so in a way that leads us to compassion and understanding and love and not judgment. In this third, revised and updated edition of her well-known book, Scott keeps pace with changes and advances in Mormonism, and reveals formidable new challenges to its claims and teachings. The Mormon Mirage provides fascinating, carefully documented insights into • DNA research’s withering implications for the Book of Mormon • the impact of new “revelations” on Latter-day Saint (LDS) race relations • new findings about Mormon history • increasing publicity about LDS splinter groups, particularly polygamous ones • recent disavowals of long-held doctrines by church leadership • the rise of Mormon apologetics on the Internet More than a riveting, insider’s scrutiny of the Mormon faith, this book is a testimony to the trustworthiness of Scripture and the grace of Jesus Christ.

Leaving Mormonism written by Corey Miller and has been published by Kregel Academic this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-28 with Religion categories.

The growing popular perception today is that the Mormon church as just another denomination within Christianity, and representatives of the LDS church often encourage this perspective. Despite points of agreement, major differences exist on foundational theological matters (for example, the Trinity), as well as social and moral issues (such as racial equality). As former Mormons turned evangelical Christians, each of whom is an accomplished scholar, the four contributors to this volume provide a unique and authoritative corrective. Each contributor shares his or her story of growing up in the Mormon church, and how biblical, theological, moral, or scientific issues forced them to eventually leave Mormonism. The contributors draw on the expertise of their respective academic fields to show how Mormon teachings and practice fall short biblically and rationally. They also address common objections raised by former Mormons who have lost faith altogether and have embraced atheism or agnosticism--especially under the influence of "new atheists" like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens.
