This report presents results of a study in the United Kingdom to explore different understandings of outreach, its role in widening participation among people underrepresented in organized education, implications of doing outreach, and practical and ethical considerations involved. Chapter 1 addresses origins and meanings of outreach, including definitions, negative connotations, reasons for doing outreach, and outreach and disadvantaged communities. Chapter 2 identifies models of outreach approaches used in different education sectors. It outlines examples in further and higher education; local authorities; voluntary organizations; and public services. Chapter 3 focuses on implications of doing outreach, including its association with the concept of disadvantage, targeting, networking with other agencies, interagency partnerships, identifying community needs, responding to identified needs, changing institutional practice, and outreach settings. Chapter 4 examines skills staff need and these related issues: making the right contacts, working with community gatekeepers, staff recruitment, professional standing and status, staff development, and training local people. Chapter 5, on funding outreach, discusses investment of time, post-funding sustainability, and capacity-building. Chapter 6, on returns on investment, discusses evaluation of activities, evaluation methods, benefits in relation to costs, impact, and need for a broad view of outcomes. Chapter 7 draws conclusions. Organic Outreach For Churches written by Kevin G. Harney and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-22 with Religion categories.

Nearly all churches and ministries consider themselves dedicated to evangelism, and many explicitly include outreach in their mission statements. But few are actually bearing fruit. Kevin Harney diagnoses this problem and offers guidance for multiplying the outreach impact of churches. Organic Outreach for Churches provides direction for local congregations to weave evangelism into the fabric of the church. Commitment to the Great Commission is not simply about sending money and prayers to missions or holding occasional events to reach out (although these things are good). Organic outreach happens when evangelistic vision and action become the domain of every ministry and the commitment of every person in the congregation. This will not happen accidentally. There is huge spiritual and practical resistance to such changes. But the only way evangelism will become an organic part of a church is when every leader and each member is gripped by a commitment to proclaiming the gospel. This book is a roadmap for pastors and leaders who wish to infuse evangelistic passion into every aspect of their church's life.

Traditionally, academic library outreach has meant reaching out to the campus community, providing services to faculty and students. Many universities and colleges, however, now have a new or renewed emphasis on outreach beyond the campus, seeking to ensure their institutions' relevance to the community at large. How can and do academic libraries participate in this type of outreach? What types of collaborations or partnerships are academic libraries forming with schools, public libraries, or community groups? How do academic librarians partner with faculty or campus departments on their community projects? What role does service-learning play? Nancy Courtney has assembled a sampling of approaches, from the innovative to the tried-and-true, each written in the voice of its strongest champion.
