At Frontiers our mission is to make science open – so that scientists can collaborate better and innovate faster to deliver the solutions that enable healthy lives on a healthy planet. We do this through our community driven Open Access journals. As researchers across the globe work on tackling the challenges facing immunology in the field of Microbial Immunology, they publish their success stories. However, it is equally important for researchers to discuss the challenges they face on the road to success, as most innovation begins with failure. Our Open Access publication allows researchers to discover the areas for development in the field and to provide a focus for future research. This Research Topic will highlight the importance of learning from one another in the scientific community and continue to highlight areas for progress. This Research Topic welcomes Reviews, Mini-reviews, Original Research, and Perspectives that highlight the field of Microbial Immunology from the following perspectives: - Recent success stories with a focus on the challenges faced and overcame. - Current challenges in the field and emerging research to innovate.

Disputes And Challenges Of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors In Gastrointestinal Cancers written by Hongwei Yao and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-15 with Science categories.

Recently, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have received a lot of attention to treat gastrointestinal cancers. Compared with traditional treatments, immunotherapy can kill cancer cells by activating the antitumor immunity, the specific recognition of cancer antigens preventing normal cells from being attacked. However, the application of ICIs is accompanied by a series of specific toxic reactions caused by the functional stimulation of the immune system, which are called immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Early identification and timely intervention to handle irAEs are usually required to maximize the therapeutic effect of ICIs. In addition, related surgical complications after neoadjuvant immunotherapy is increasingly reported. Thus, although immunotherapy has shown obvious advantages in the clinical treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, the safety and potential risks of such treatment have to be considered. Many clinical studies have shown that cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant immunotherapy experience different degrees of immune-inflammatory reaction, immune disorders, immune-related pneumonia, and other adverse events. In addition, some patients suffering from irAEs during the treatment have to face a delayed operation or even lose the opportunity to be operated. Finally, because the clinical imaging manifestations of immunotherapy are complex and diverse, the imaging evaluation criteria have so far not been standardized. The aim of this Research Topic is to report disputes and challenges of immune checkpoint inhibitors in gastrointestinal cancers. We welcome original research articles, Review articles, Mini Reviews, and Case reports. Preferred topics include but are not limited to the following: • Timely discovery of immune-related adverse events during immunotherapy • Identification and differentiation between immune-related adverse events and adverse drug events • Treatment and drug withdrawal timing upon immune-related adverse events • Management of related surgical complications after neoadjuvant immunotherapy • Imaging evaluation criteria or methods of immunotherapy efficacy

Nematodes As Model Organisms written by Itamar Glazer and has been published by CABI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-16 with Science categories.

Nematodes are small multicellular organisms that have been used as biological models since the 1960s. For example, Caenorhabditis elegans is a free-living nematode worm, about 1mm in length, that lives in temperate soil environments. It is made up of about 1000 cells, and has a short life cycle of only two weeks. It was the first multicellular organism to have its whole genome sequenced. The book summarizes the importance of nematodes as model organisms in the fields of genetics, developmental biology, neurobiology, pharmacology, nutrition, ecology and parasitology. Of interest to a broad audience across a wide spectrum of disciplines, this book is useful for biologists working on comparative studies to investigate biological processes across organisms; medical scientists and pharmacologists for exploration of drugs and medicine (including the use of genome editing to eliminate diseases); ecologists considering nematodes as indicators for environment changes; and parasitologists for host-parasite interactions. Many other researchers can use this book as a benchmark for the broad implications of nematology research on other aspects of science.

Microbial Products: Applications and Translational Trends offers complete coverage of the production of microbial products, including biopolymers, biofuels, bioactive compounds, and their applications in fields such as bioremediation, agriculture, medicine, and other industrial settings. This book focuses on multiple processes including upstream procedures and downstream processing, and the tools required for their production. Lab-scale development processes may not be as efficient when aiming for large-scale industrial production, so it is necessary to utilize in silico modeling tools for bioprocess design to ensure success at translational levels. Therefore, this book presents in silico and mathematical simulations and approaches used for such applications. Further, it examines microbial products produced from bacteria, fungi, and algae. These major microbial categories have the capacity to produce various, diverse secondary metabolites, bioactive compounds, enzymes, biopolymers, biofuels, probiotics, and more. The bioproducts examined in the book are of great social, medical, and agricultural benefit, and include examples of biodegradable polymers, biofuels, biofertilizers, and drug delivery agents. Presents approaches and tools that aid in the design of eco-friendly, efficient, and economic bioprocesses. Utilizes in silico and mathematical simulations for optimal bioprocess design. Examines approaches to be used for bioproducts from the lab scale to widely applied microbial biotechnologies. Presents the latest trends and technologies in the production approaches for microbial bio-products manufacture and application. This book is ideal for both researchers and academics, as it provides up-to-date knowledge of applied microbial biotechnology approaches for bio-products.
