Note: Cover has been revised but content is the same.Everything you ever believed about your sexuality may be turned on its head upon meeting the right person. When television commercial production coordinator Meg Curtis gets stood up by her longtime boyfriend, she vents her frustration by feverishly writing in a diary. At a time when she is unsure about all things romantic, she encounters 5th grade teacher Regina Baker at yoga class, a free-spirited single mom who is beautiful, playful, and impossibly intriguing. What starts as friendship turns sharply toward something more as they learn they each share a love for very dark and unconventional sensual expression. Despite significant differences in lifestyle, each woman is desperate to get close to the other to explore the depths of devotion.Shocked, yet thrilled by the intense level of Regina's erotic desire, Meg turns apprehensive. She had never been with a woman- never had to be in society with a woman, never had to wonder what labels may be placed upon her relationship, never considered herself anything but obsessed with men. Regina, also enchanted by a woman for the first time, finds freedom from the pressures of daily life by committing herself to Meg. Compelled by the need for a balance between worlds, the two embark on a daring, passionately physical role-playing game. Welcoming Regina's darkest needs, Meg explores her own deep-seated desires that have been locked away in the shadows her whole life.Erotic, amusing, and profoundly romantic, Owning Regina is a tale that will awaken you, possess you, and transport you to an alternate universe that steams with passion and danger. Despite the recent success of welfare reform in moving people off public assistance and into jobs, most of America's working poor are still unable to accumulate even the most minimal of assets. Even when they are getting by, they lack many of the resources—tangible and intangible—that provide middle-class Americans with a sense of security, stability, and a stake in the future. In Owning Up, Michelle Miller-Adams demonstrates how asset-building programs, used in combination with traditional income-based support, can be an effective means for helping millions of American out of poverty. Miller-Adams expands the traditional concept of assets to encompass a range of tools, experiences, resources, and support systems that are necessary if asset building is to serve as an effective anti-poverty strategy. She identifies four types of assets that can represent sources of wealth for low-income individuals and communities: economic human social, and natural assets. Economic assets include equity, retirement savings, and other financial holdings. Human assets include education, knowledge, skills, and talents. Included among social assets are the networks of trust and reciprocity that bind communities together. Natural assets include the land, water, air and other natural resources we depend on for survival. Owning Up also examines five organizations at the forefront of building assets for the poor. Their stories are told through the eyes of individuals whose lives they have helped transform. These organizations have all developed effective strategies for building assets, and Miller-Adams identifies them as models to be emulated elsewhere. The profiled organizations include: Neighborhoods Incorporated of Battle Creek, Michigan. Its innovative strategies seek to increase home ownership and promote neighborhood revitalization in poor communities. The Watershed Research and Training Center. This local organization strengthens the natural resource-based eco

Inspired by Real Events Regina Anuszewicz looked forward to visiting her sister in Bialystok for a late afternoon stroll along the Bialy River. It was June 1906, and it should have been an exciting time to stay overnight in the women's boarding house. However, a violent pogrom blasted those plans as a rage of violence shook the town and Regina's hopes. Russian soldiers swarmed the streets and homes, stomping up to her sister's boarding house, forcing Regina to hide inside the wardrobe, barely able to breathe as she heard screams and people begging for their lives. The trauma of that day shaped Regina's life and every decision she made as she moved through the days and years, coloring her approach to every event that took her from Poland to the United States and the four children she sought to protect. "Pogroms rip at the hearts and minds of all of us, yet the stories of those who fought for survival must continue to be told. In Regina’s story, seen through the revelations of her granddaughter, Spieler takes the reader through an intimate look at Regina’s trials and travails and reveals the consequences of her decisions that impacted the generations that followed. A triumph for the soul!" –Carole Bumpus, Author

After spending the last ten years following her late husband on campaign, the irrepressible Jane Kimball finds herself badly in need of a position to support herself. Marriage holds no appeal; she's not likely to find a husband like her Jimmy again. But when Miss Thorn of the Fortune Employment Agency offers her a post with the Duke of Wey, Jane feels drawn to help the lonely widower with his three daughters. He may seem a bit aloof, but Miss Thorn's cat Fortune approved of him. Why should Jane doubt a duke? Alaric, Duke of Wey, commands his staff, his tenants, and the halls of Parliament, managing vast holdings in England and across the seas. Why is it he cannot manage his own daughters? As an old danger rears its head, he comes to rely on Jane's practical nature, her outspoken ways to navigate the waters of fatherhood. And when necessity dictates he take a wife, thoughts turn to an unlikely governess who might make the perfect bride. This sweet, clean Regency romance is the first in the Fortune's Brides series. Previous praise for Regina Scott's work: - "Regina Scott's irresistible characters will win your heart." Eloisa James, NYT and USA Today bestselling author - "If the book has the name Regina Scott on its cover, it is sure to please. Highly recommended." Huntress Reviews Here's a taste: The duke's smile was wry. "You have no need to apologize, Mrs. Kimball. We disturbed your well-earned rest, invaded your privacy, and called you names. You'd have every right to tender your resignation." Jane returned his smile. "Oh, I don't give up so easily. Besides, where else would I have the opportunity to see a unicorn?" "There is that." His smile faded. "I'll speak to my daughters in the morning. I begin to see why the other governesses left." "Cowards," Jane told him. "I've seen too much to be frightened of a voice in the wardrobe." "I'm glad, Mrs. Kimball." Suddenly he made a face, making him much more human. "I wonder, would you mind if I used your first name?" That fluttering feeling was building again. She ought to refuse, keep her distance. Her mouth opened before she could stop it. "Not at all, Your Grace." "Thank you, Jane." Why was it she felt as if he'd caressed her cheek? Her first name was only one syllable while her last name was two. He was probably just being efficient. "And on behalf of my entire family, I apologize." He swept her a bow as if to prove it. "You have been like a summer breeze through this place, clearing out the cobwebs and chasing away the dark." How beautiful. Once again, she clamped her mouth shut against the words building behind it. "And perhaps we can dispense with the 'Your Grace' business," he suggested. Jane fidgeted. This was dangerous ground. The maids and footman were just down the corridor. Mr. Parsons the butler had to be waiting. But still she felt as if the world had come down to the duke and her. "I don't know your first name," she pointed out. "And I imagine Mr. Parsons would have apoplexy if I used it. Perhaps Wey? And only in private." "I will settle for Wey. I'll leave you to enjoy the rest of your evening. Thank you, Jane, for not giving up on us." She saw him to the door, closed it behind him, and leaned her back against it. She had never been the type to give up. She was more likely to ride the extra mile, take the high hill. She had fought against Jimmy's stepmother to marry him, fought for her place at his side in the field. She had never let anything stop her from achieving her dream. But when it came to her growing feelings for Wey, she knew an impossible dream when she saw one. Fortune's Brides: Only a matchmaking cat can hunt true love.

A Room of One’s Own is an essay written by Virginia Woolf. It was published in 1929 and is based on two lectures given by the author in 1928 at two colleges for women at Cambridge. In this famous essay, Woolf addressed the status of women, and women artists in particular. In this essay, the author also asserts that a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write. According to Woolf, women’s creativity has been curtailed due to centuries of prejudice and financial and educational disadvantages. To emphasize her view, she offers the example of an imaginary gifted but uneducated sister of William Shakespeare, who, discouraged from all eventually kills herself. Woolf celebrates the work of women who have overcome that tradition and become writers, including Jane Austen, George Eliot, and the Brontë sisters, Anne, Charlotte, and Emily. In the final section Woolf suggests that great minds are neutral and argues that intellectual freedom requires financial freedom. The author entreats her audience to write not only fiction but poetry, criticism, and scholarly works as well.
