The Age Wave of "Me Generation" Baby Boomers is becoming a tsunami and people born from 1946 to 1964 are facing a cataclysm of epic proportions. What is a cataclysm; "it is a large-scale and violent event in the natural world, as well as a sudden violent upheaval, especially in a political or social context." As it turns out, we are facing both. The age wave has started whether we choose to acknowledge it or not. Costs for managing the ever growing senior population are going to require tough choices requiring every single one of us to understand what is at stake and to make sure our voices are heard. Complicating this picture is our denial as a generation and that lack of acknowledgement has resulted in Boomers being unprepared for what is coming next as we enter the "last third of our life". We don't have even the minimum documents to express our wishes upon our death or a catastrophic health event, no long-term financial plan, and rising personal debt paralleling our growing national deficit. We're losing ground as part of the diminishing middle class and poverty is growing across our age spectrum. And at a time where our financial stability is interwoven in the global economy, as a country we are taking giant steps towards national isolation and protectionism. There has been no time in modern history when it was so essential for every single American-particularly Baby Boomers to take action at the personal, community, state and national level before there is nothing we can do, but watch it overtake us. At the heart of that action is our right and obligation to vote. If we stay silent, we will have no one to blame but ourselves because the warning signs are everywhere. The truth is the truth, and we've done a stellar job avoiding, burying, denying, ignoring, etc., but we are out of time. So now we must choose to step up and step out to take control of our future.

My focus here is our inability as a country to manage the age wave and its extreme costs, but to understand the phenomenon, I needed to include other influences such as our overwhelming denial of age as members of the Baby Boomer generation, our lack of even the minimum documents to express our wishes upon our death or a catastrophic health event, the lack of any kind of long-term financial plan, the rising debt we face personally and as a nation, the impact of growing poverty across the age spectrum and our trend towards national isolation. If this sounds a little like panic, you are correct in your assumption. It isn't one thing that is terrifying. It is a coalescing of multiple trends that individually can be devastating, but together, are truly cataclysmic. I am at heart a person filled with hope and I believe that what is at stake here is creating a compelling case for each one of us to face and act upon the truth that is right in front of us. The amazing thing about the truth is that it is simple, and it makes so much sense. In our very complex lives, which we have chosen to make complicated (because it is a great way to feel self important and avoid making the hard decisions we don't want to make), we assume that it can't be easy to find solutions. Guess again! The truth is the truth, and we've done a stellar job avoiding, burying, denying, etc., but we are out of time. So here is the truth in all of its simplicity.

"Dychtwald and Morison offer a brilliant and convincing perspective: an essential re-think of what 'aging' and 'retirement' mean today and an invitation to help mobilize the best in the tidal wave of Boomer Third Agers." —Daniel Goleman, PhD, Author, Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ Throughout 99 percent of human history, life expectancy at birth was less than 18 years. Few people had a chance to age. Today, thanks to extraordinary medical, demographic, and economic shifts, most of us expect to live long lives. Consequently, the world is witnessing a powerful new version of retirement, driven by the power and needs of the Baby Boomer generation. Consumers over age 50 account for more than half of all spending and control more than 70% of our total net worth – yet are largely ignored by youth-focused marketers. How will work, family, and retirement be transformed to accommodate two billion people over the age of 60 worldwide? In the coming years, we'll see explosive business growth fueled by this unprecedented longevity revolution. What Retirees Want presents the culmination of 30 years of research by world-famous "Age Wave" expert Ken Dychtwald, Ph.D., and author and consultant Robert Morison. It explains how the aging of the Baby Boomers will forever change our lives, businesses, government programs, and the consumer marketplace. This exciting new stage of life, the "Third Age," poses daunting questions: What will "old" look like in the years ahead? With continued advances in longevity, all of the traditional life-stage markers and boundaries will need to be adjusted. What new products and services will boom as a result of this coming longevity revolution? What unconscious ageist marketing practices are hurting people – and business growth? Will the majority of elder boomers outlive their pensions and retirement savings and how can this financial disaster be prevented? What incredible new technologies of medicine, life extension, and human enhancement await us in the near future? What purposeful new roles can we create for elder boomers so that the aging nations of the Americas, Europe, and Asia capitalize on the upsides of aging? Which pioneering organizations and companies worldwide have created marketing strategies and programs that resonate with the quirky and demanding Boomer generation? In this entertaining, thought-provoking, and wide-ranging book, Dychtwald and Morison explain how individuals, businesses, non-profits, and governments can best prepare for a new era – where the needs and demands of the "Third Age" will set the lifestyle, health, social, marketplace, and political priorities of generations to come.

In Dr. Tim Athey's work over the past decade, it has become clear to him that the values of the Baby Boomer generation pose unique challenges as they transition through midlife. These challenges are reflected in a growing need for meaning, spirituality, freedom, and change in the personal and professional lives of this generation of people. The turn of the millennium, and the tragedy of September 11, 2001, have caused all Americans to reflect on the things we want our lives to stand for. Because of who we are as a generation, and the values we hold dear, the drive for meaning and direction will reemerge as a compelling force for Baby Boomers facing the challenges of middle age. The Second Journey explores the Baby Boomer generation and how their values affect the personal adjustment, career transitions, and spirituality of this unique group of people. It explores the dilemmas that Boomers face as a generation and identifies the specific steps to resolve these personal dilemmas and establish a new vision for the future. This reawakening to the values of their past as they face the challenges of the future is the Second Journey that this generation now begins.

This ground-breaking study of the baby boomer generation, who are now entering old age, breaks new ground in ageing research. This post-war cohort has experienced a range of social, cultural, and medical changes in regard to their notions of body, from the introduction of the Pill and the decoupling of sex and procreation to the H-Bomb and Earthrise. Yet, paradoxically, ageing is also universal. This exciting book reflects the intersection of time, ageing, body and identity to give a more nuanced and enlightened understanding of the ageing process.

Sixty Sexy And Successful written by Robert Schwalbe Ph.D. and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-05-30 with Psychology categories.

As a psychotherapist who focuses on working with the issues that challenge midlife and older men, Robert Schwalbe feels that the 60s and beyond can be the most rewarding or the most miserable period in a man's life. An aging male baby boomer looking at 60 encounters very specific psychological and physical changes. The impact of these changes can be felt in relationship to others and in how a man sees himself in his world. Does he continue to fit in? In particular, how a man adapts to being in his 60s is an indicator of how he feels about living the rest of his life. Dr. Schwalbe knows from personal experience, as well as from his patients, the challenges produced by anxiety and depression in dealing with aging in a youth-oriented society. He looks at competition in the gym, sports field, financial and business arena, the political world to the social and sexual world and urges men to adapt to the outside forces. The key is in the expectations and how to recognize and plan for them. Candid and straightforward talk with vignettes drawn from Dr. Schwalbe's practice illustrate problems and solutions related to marriage, relationships, career, retirement (don't, he urges), divorce, death of a partner, fitness, nutrition, sexual behavior, dealing with adult children, lifestyle changes, financial planning, ageism, and many other topics. Schwalbe presents a heart-felt and therapeutically tested guide to keeping things in perspective in order to maintain self confidence and self esteem. Most importantly, this book is directed to the aging male baby boomer (and to those who love him, know him, or live with him). It tells him that he is not alone and that the intimate thoughts that he has about his aging body and mind are shared by millions of men who are in their 60s and are dealing with their new age.

Baby Boomers And Their Parents written by George P. Moschis and has been published by Paramount Market Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Business & Economics categories.

Lots of marketers paint a rosy picture of the lifestyle of baby boomers as they enter the retirement years. But authors Moschis and Mathur, basing their findings on 20 years of surveys among baby boomers and their parents, tell it like it is. Many baby boomers have saved little money for retirement; their health is worse than that of their parents; and while both generations say travel is in their futures, many will not have money enough to rent a budget motel a few miles from home. But the picture is not all bleak. Moschis and Mathur use their findings to discuss how people can live longer, more satisfying lives. In addition, they apply those findings to marketing and advertising, advising businesses how to use the attitudes and mindsets of mature consumers to create products and services for them as well as to make those products and services more appealing to older customers.
