Multi-Protocol Label Switch (MPLS) and Generalized MPLS (GMPLS) are key technologies for next-generation IP backbone networks. Until now, however, engineers have been forced to search for technical papers on this subject and read them in an ad-hoc manner. At last there is a book that explains both MPLS and GMPLS concepts in a systematic way. GMPLS Technologies: Broadband Backbone Networks and Systems addresses the basic concepts, network architectures, protocols, and traffic engineering needed to operate MPLS and GMPLS networks. The book begins with an introduction of the nature and requirements of broadband networks. It describes the basics of control-oriented networks and Internet Protocol (IP). The text then examines the fundamentals of MPLS, explaining why MPLS is preferable to IP packet-based forwarding. This volume covers MPLS applications, details IP router structures, illustrates GMPLS, and explores important studies on traffic engineering in GMPLS Networks. The text concludes with a description of IP, MPLS, and GMPLS standardization topics. Network equipment design engineers and network service provision engineers can reference this book to understand the crucial techniques for building MPLS/GMPLS-based networks. Features Addresses the basic concepts, network architectures, protocols, and traffic engineering needed to operate MPLS and GMPLS networks Covers the fundamentals of connection-oriented networks including TCP/IP, flow control mechanism, and ATM protocol Analyzes MPLS issues and applications, such as label switched paths (LSPs) and VPNs Highlights IP router structures, examining technologies of data path function - switch architecture, packet scheduling, and forwarding engine Explores multi-layer traffic engineering, survivable networks, and wavelength-routed optical networks Demonstrates GMPLS-based routers

"Principles of Data Forwarding Technologies" "Principles of Data Forwarding Technologies" delivers an authoritative exploration of the essential mechanisms, architectures, and innovations that power data movement across modern and emerging networks. The book begins by establishing a strong conceptual framework, demystifying historical evolution, the interplay between routing and forwarding, and detailing the core distinctions within the OSI and TCP/IP models. Readers are introduced to unicast, multicast, broadcast, and anycast forwarding modes, alongside an incisive analysis of the control and forwarding plane dynamics and the unique challenges shaping today's scalable, secure networks. Delving deeper, each chapter offers a structured examination of forwarding at Layer 2 and Layer 3, encompassing Ethernet switch design, VLANs, loop avoidance, high-availability strategies, as well as advanced routing and high-performance table lookup techniques. The narrative seamlessly expands into multiprotocol and overlay technologies such as MPLS, VXLAN, and EVPN, while illuminating cutting-edge topics like segment routing, network virtualization, and programmable data planes using languages and platforms such as P4 and eBPF. Special attention is paid to integrating these technologies within cloud, data center, wireless, mobile, and non-terrestrial networking contexts, examining the energy efficiency, performance, and resilience of next-generation architectures. The later chapters address resilience, telemetry, security, and future research frontiers, equipping professionals and researchers with strategies for monitoring, troubleshooting, and safeguarding forwarding infrastructure against dynamic threats. With detailed coverage of zero trust, encrypted channels, AI-driven data plane optimization, post-quantum security, and intent-based networking, this work serves as both a comprehensive reference and visionary guide for architects, engineers, and scholars shaping the networks of tomorrow.

This book contains the refereed proceedings of the 3rd International IFIP-TC6 Networking Conference, Networking 2004. Conferences in the Networking series span the interests of several distinct, but related, TC6 working groups, including Working Groups 6.2, 6.3, and 6.8. Re?ecting this, the conference was structured with three Special Tracks: (i) Networking Technologies, Services, and Protocols; (ii) Performance of Computer and Communication Networks; and (iii) Mobile and Wireless Communications. However, beyond providing a forum for the presentation of high-quality - search in various complementary aspects of networking, the conference was also targetedtocontributingtoauni?edviewofthe?eldandtofosteringtheinter- tion and exchange of fruitful ideas between the various related (and overlapping) specialized subcommunities therein. Towards this second objective, more than a few conference sessions (and thematic sections in this book) ‘cut across’ the Special Tracks, along more generic or fundamental concepts. Networking 2004 was fortunate to attract very high interest among the c- munity, and the conference received 539 submissions from 44 countries in all ?ve continents. These ?gures correspond to a remarkable increase in subm- sions from the previous very successful events (roughly, a 156% increase over Networking 2000 and 71% over Networking 2002), and indicate that Netw- king conferences are progressively becoming established as worldwide reference events in the ?eld.

Network Evolution and Applications provides a comprehensive, integrative, and easy approach to understanding the technologies, concepts, and milestones in the history of networking. It provides an overview of different aspects involved in the networking arena that includes the core technologies that are essential for communication and important in our day-to-day life. It throws some light on certain past networking concepts and technologies that have been revolutionary in the history of science and technology and have been highly impactful. It expands on various concepts like Artificial Intelligence, Software Defined Networking, Cloud Computing, and Internet of Things, which are very popular at present. This book focuses on the evolutions made in the world of networking. One can’t imagine the world without the Internet today; with the Internet and the present- day networking, distance doesn’t matter at all. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a tough time worldwide, with global lockdown, locked homes, empty streets, stores without consumers, and offices with no or fewer staff. Thanks to the modern digital networks, the culture of work from home (WFH) or working remotely with the network/Internet connection has come to the fore, with even school and university classes going online. Although WFH is not new, the COVID-19 pandemic has given it a new look, and industries are now willfully exploring WFH to extend it in the future. The aim of this book is to present the timeline of networking to show the developments made and the milestones that were achieved due to these developments.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 2010 International Conferences on Security Te- nology (SecTech 2010), and Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity (DRBC 2010) – two of the partnering events of the Second International Mega-Conference on Future Generation Information Technology (FGIT 2010). SecTech and DRBC bring together researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of security and disaster recovery methodologies, including their links to c- putational sciences, mathematics and information technology. In total, 1,630 papers were submitted to FGIT 2010 from 30 countries, which - cludes 250 papers submitted to SecTech/DRBC 2010. The submitted papers went through a rigorous reviewing process: 395 of the 1,630 papers were accepted for FGIT 2010, while 57 papers were accepted for SecTech/DRBC 2010. Of the 250 papers 10 were selected for the special FGIT 2010 volume published by Springer in the LNCS series. 34 papers are published in this volume, and 13 papers were wi- drawn due to technical reasons. We would like to acknowledge the great effort of the SecTech/DRBC 2010 Int- national Advisory Boards and members of the International Program Committees, as well as all the organizations and individuals who supported the idea of publishing this volume of proceedings, including SERSC and Springer. Also, the success of these two conferences would not have been possible without the huge support from our sponsors and the work of the Chairs and Organizing Committee.
