Il volume dedica a Barcelona, Lyon e Paris tre itinerari di architettura e paesaggio che non intendono descrivere le città nella loro totalità, ma offrire una selezione di opere che mostrano nel loro complesso le diverse capacità di rilettura e riscrittura di tessuti, spazialità urbane e manufatti. In questo senso ciascun itinerario si fa rivelatore dell'intensità con cui le città aggiornano i propri linguaggi offrendosi alle nuove necessità della società contemporanea, locale e internazionale, come risorsa strutturale del patrimonio e del mercato culturale. Ciascun itinerario è introdotto da una pianta che sintetizza la forma urbana di appartenenza e le opere sono descritte da brevi schede testuali e fotografiche. Questo lavoro raccoglie la prima selezione di casi studio di una più ampia ricerca in ambito europeo dedicata alla lettura dell'architettura e del paesaggio che utilizza l'itinerario come dispositivo interpretativo e narrativo. Il volume è a cura di Giovanni Battista Cocco e Cesarina Siddi. The three itineraries in this volume are devoted to Barcelona, Lyon and Paris. They do not describe the cities overall but rather offer a selection of projects that illustrate how the cities' urban fabrics, spaces and buildings can be reread and rewritten. In this sense, each itinerary reveals the intensity with which cities update their languages offering structural resources that can respond to the new needs of contemporary society - both on local and international levels. Each itinerary is introduced through a plan that synthesizes the context's urban form; the single projects are briefly described in text and photographic narratives. This book is a first selection of a series of case studies within a European research project devoted to the reading of architecture and landscape utilizing the itinerary as an interpretative and narrative device. Il paesaggio originario greco, con le sue città policentriche ma geograficamente interrelate, i monumenti posti in posizione dominante, le sequenze architettoniche organizzate come preciso contrappunto ad una topografia articolata, sembra costituire il principale filtro attraverso cui Elia Zenghelis si approccia alle possibilità di intervenire nel contemporaneo. L’ipotesi di un “manifesto retroattivo” guida questo scritto attraverso il paesaggio di immagini prodotte negli anni da Zenghelis e dai suoi allievi lasciando risuonare un’attitudine al progetto radicata nell’ascolto dei luoghi e nell’assunzione di responsabilità rispetto ad una loro riscrittura. La complementarità di uno “sguardo archeologico” profondo e di una rara capacità di visione d’insieme rappresenta la cifra distintiva di un metodo che appare quanto mai attuale. Le aspettative legate alla “transizione ecologica”, alimentando la ricerca intorno all’intervento minimo ed imponendo di ragionare per ambiti geografici, costringono inevitabilmente il progetto alla interscalarità, validando il significato più profondo della lezione di Zenghelis.

Containing the proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability this book addresses the multi-disciplinary aspects of urban planning; a result of the increasing size of cities; the amount of resources and services required and the complexity of modern society. Most of earth’s population now lives in cities and the process of urbanisation still continues generating many problems deriving from the drift of the population towards them. These problems can be resolved by cities becoming efficient habitats, saving resources in a way that improves the quality and standard of living. The process however, faces a number of major challenges, related to reducing pollution, improving main transportation and infrastructure systems. Gli Atti, curati da Julian Bogdani e Stefano Costa, comprendono 21 articoli che ben testimoniano il successo e la vitalità dell’iniziativa, nata nel 2006, cui si è più volte dato spazio nelle pagine della rivista. La seconda parte del volume, che raccoglie 14 contributi, è stata curata da Carlo Citter e Agostino Sotgia ed è dedicata agli Atti della Sessione speciale “Modelling the Landscape. From Prediction to Postdiction” della settima edizione della Landscape Archaeology Conference (Iași, Romania 10-15 September 2022). Si tratta di un tema dedicato all’uso dei modelli per lo studio dei paesaggi antichi, considerato sia attraverso l’approccio predittivo “tradizionale”, perché in uso dagli anni Novanta, sia attraverso quello postdittivo, che i curatori definiscono più “sperimentale”.
