The problem of pain is a perennial one; and for those who undergo particular sufferings it can often be the largest obstacle for trusting in a good and loving God. If such a God exists, why is there so much suffering in the world? And how do we deal with it when it comes into our lives? In his most fullest and most passionately argued book since 2008's bestseller THE REASON FOR GOD, New York pastor and church planter Tim Keller brings his authoritative teaching, sensitivity to contemporary culture and pastoral heart to this pressing question, offering no easy answers but giving guidance, encouragement and inspiration.

Pain written by Patrick Wall and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-05-07 with Medical categories.

Pain is one of medicine's greatest mysteries. When farmer John Mitson caught his hand in a baler, he cut off his trapped hand and carried it to a neighbor. "Sheer survival and logic" was how he described it. "And strangely, I didn't feel any pain." How can this be? We're taught that pain is a warning message to be heeded at all costs, yet it can switch off in the most agonizing circumstances or switch on for no apparent reason. Many scientists, philosophers, and laypeople imagine pain to operate like a rigid, simple signaling system, as if a particular injury generates a fixed amount of pain that simply gets transmitted to the brain; yet this mechanistic model is woefully lacking in the face of the surprising facts about what people and animals do and experience when their bodies are damaged. Patrick Wall looks at these questions and sets his scientific account in a broad context, interweaving it with a wealth of fascinating and sometimes disturbing historical detail, such as famous characters who derived pleasure from pain, the unexpected reactions of injured people, the role of endorphins, and the power of placebo. He covers cures of pain, ranging from drugs and surgery, through relaxation techniques and exercise, to acupuncture, electrical nerve stimulation, and herbalism. Pain involves our state of mind, our social mores and beliefs, and our personal experiences and expectations. Stepping beyond the famous neurologic gate-control theory for which he is known, Wall shows that pain is a matter of behavior and its manifestation differs among individuals, situations, and cultures. "The way we deal with pain is an expression of individuality."

Suffering and Pain One questions people always ask Why does God let Christians go through pain and suffering? It would be great if our lives on Earth were always good and nothing bad happened. Because of the fall of man from the perfect life in the beginning, we have to endure the same things that all men have to go through. God does not cause us to suffer and go through pain, but he does allow bad things to happen to good people. What will you learn from this book? We will go through how God allowed Satan to test Job. And how when it was done, Job kept his faith and was rewarded many times over be God from what he had before. This is what we will have when we are in heaven. When bad things happen, it is bad, just as it was for Job. He was at the end of his rope and ready to die and be done with life. God uses to bad to create good. Many of the bad things that happen, do have good come out of it in the end. It is hard to see it at the time, but when you look back after a while, you can see it. I know in my life even things like the end of a job at one place, can feel terrible at the time, but after you get into a new place and find out that the new job is much better than the old, you see it was for the best overall. The key is to have faith that God is doing the best for you. We many times don't thing we agree with things that happen, but God sees the whole picture and he knows what is coming in the future. We do not kown the future so we can't see the things ahead. Be strong and we will see. We also know that when we get to Heaven, all things will be perfect and we will have no pain or suffering anymore.

Needless Suffering written by David Nagel, MD and has been published by University Press of New England this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-05 with Health & Fitness categories.

Needless Suffering offers a sociological examination of a complex medical problem: chronic pain and the inability of doctors and other health professionals to understand and manage it in their patients. People in pain, writes Dr. David Nagel, are the poor of the medical world. Like the poor, they are stigmatized and left at the mercy of powerful social actors who tend to work in their own self-interest, frequently at the expense of those they propose to serve. This leaves those who suffer with little control over their own destinies and creates a dysfunctional status quo that harms instead of helps. Drawing on his own experience witnessing his mother's chronic pain and numerous clinical stories from over thirty years' expertise as a pain management specialist, Nagel looks first at patients, their families, and their doctors (usually not trained in pain management), and then broadens his canvas to elaborate a pain power structure that includes the entire healthcare community, insurers, lawyers, government regulators, employers, politicians, law enforcement agencies, and painkilling drugs. Concluding with concrete reforms to create more effective and compassionate pain care, this book is designed for pain patients and their families, healthcare providers, legislators and other public policymakers, judges, personal injury and other attorneys, insurers, government regulators, law enforcement personnel, and health care businesspeople.
