Helping Children Think About Bereavement written by Heather Butler and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08-21 with Education categories.

Each year, 3,000 children and young people between the ages of 1 and 19, die as a result of illness or accident.Around 5% of children will have experienced the death of a parent by the time they are 16. Statistics indicate that up to 70% of schools have a bereaved pupil in their care at any given time. Helping Children Think about Bereavement provides a four part differentiated story and activities to help normalise death and allow children to develop emotional literacy to talk about it. The author, along with Child Bereavement UK have devised activities and guidance for teachers on how to use the story to develop children’s emotional literacy and prepare them for bereavement, whether it affects them personally or through a friend’s bereavement. This book also offers support for teachers and parents outlining how children’s understanding of death develops and what can be helpful in supporting bereaved children. The story is presented at different levels: for children aged 9-11 for children aged 7 -9 for children aged 5-7 for children who speak English as a Second Language for children in Early Years or with Learning Difficulties Details surrounding death and its aftermath are not always readily talked about or well handled. When it does happen, children need to be able to express themselves and know that their feelings are a normal part of grieving. This book is an invaluable resource for all key stage one and two teachers, teaching assistants and anyone who is involved in bereavement training.

She almost lost her life. Now Hannah Ives is taking her first brave steps back into the world, wearing a wig and her heart on her sleeve after a frightening bout with breast cancer. But in the small Chesapeake Bay town where she came for a vacation, she does not find the relaxation she deserves. Instead Hannah finds a body -- of a girl who disappeared eight years before. Suddenly Hannah is asking hard questions of the good and solid citizens of Pearson’s Corner, peering behind the facade of the perfect small town and piecing together the last days of a girl who died on her high school homecoming night—a girl about the same age as Hannah’s own daughter. Uncovering some dangerous secrets, Hannah can feel her own spirit and body surging back to life. After all, she beat death once. Now, with a killer on the loose, she has to face an even deadlier foe. . . . “A shining new talent . . . Hannah Ives tackles life’s up and downs with humor, intelligence, and courage.”—Deborah Crombie, Macavity Award-winning author of Dreaming of the Bones

Two Gulls And A Girl written by Roxanne Schinas and has been published by Imperator Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-31 with Gulls categories.

Roxanne Schinas has always had a passion for wildlife. Long before she was old enough to read of Gerald Durrell's adventures she was emulating them, with pets ranging from rabbits and half-tame hedgehogs to toads, sticklebacks, locusts, and a crayfish. In the spring of 2008, while her family were cruising in southern Spain, Roxanne decided to make a survey of the seagull colony on an uninhabited island. The project began with a hand-drawn map on which the nests were plotted. Phase two was to have consisted in the study of the young birds growing up on the island, but when a local nature warden told her that most of the chicks would die, Roxanne found that she had a perfect excuse for "rescuing" two and bringing them home. Mother was not impressed... but the deed was done, and now the young naturalist had the opportunity to study, intimately, the development of Larus Cachinanns, the yellow-legged gull. Two Gulls and a Girl is Roxanne's record of events in the seagull colony and amongst her two hand-reared birds. Contains 92 black-and-white photos and illustrations. Foreword by Richard Williamson.

The Modernity Of English Art 1914 30 written by David Peters Corbett and has been published by Manchester University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Art categories.

"The modernity of English art reconceptualises the history of English painting from 1914 to the end of the 1920s. Whereas most accounts have tended to see the period as marked by a tension between the native tradition and Modernism, this ground-breaking book rethinks the 1920s by situating both Modernist and non-Modernist painters within a wider cultural history. Established figures such as Paul Nash, Edward Wadsworth and Wyndham Lewis, as well as lesser-known artists like Charles Sims, John Armstrong and Ethelbert White, are discussed and illustrated in a series of innovative readings within this context. The modernity of English art offers a new account of painting in England after 1914 and argues for a strongly revisionist view of the significance of the modern during this important but neglected period in English art." --
