Basically, Paleo diet is a fancy word for caveman diet; it's what our ancestors used to consume tens of thousands of years ago when hunting was the only way to acquire food. The fundamental concepts behind the Paleo diet boil down to the genetic level. Simply put, our DNA has not significantly changed over the past 40 thousand years, and therefore, our bodies have not yet fully reformed to the contemporary, highly processed and artificial food items that are available in abundance nowadays. Thus the Paleo style of eating is the most biologically appropriate diet for us. What can I eat? Paleo diet includes anything that can be hunted or gathered. Clearly, hunting is not an option to acquire food nowadays but you can still obtain it from a supermarket, if of course the food was readily available during the Paleolithic period. Paleo diet includes and is not limited to meat, fish, vegetables, eggs, shellfish, tree nuts, roots, fruits, coconut palm sugar and raw honey. Dairy, potatoes, processed oils, grains, legumes and sugars are to be avoided, along with salt and any drinks except water, coconut water and green tea. The diet of course eliminates any processed and readymade foods available today and is gluten free, largely due to the exclusion of grains.

In today's world dieting has become more of a business than a way to benefit people's lives. There are hundreds of diets out there and dozens making their way into the market, all cleverly advertised to target the core weakness of every consumer: A promise to make your life better. This is largely a hollow promise but still 'health corporations' succeed in trapping hundreds of thousands of people. So the question arises what is so special about the Paleo diet that makes it worth trying? For starters, the Paleo diet isn't a new thing; it wasn't created a few years or decades ago by some professor in a testing lab. The Paleo diet was a result of humans' fight for survival, it was what our ancestors used to eat 10,000 years ago; right around the time when there were no grocery stores, super markets and fast-food. Eating wasn't something to do in free time; to eat one had to search for his/her food, hunt it down and cook it in/on whatever was available. Thus, Paleo is not just a diet it's a lifestyle, one which will truly make your life healthier. The Paleo diet was just revived and popularized in the 70s by a Gastroenterologist Walter L. Voegtlin. This led to one research paper after another, one book after another being published by several doctors and nutritionists. By the 90s the Paleo diet had made its mark on the dieting market and had started to shape the dieting landscape. Practitioners started to create derivatives of the diet, synthesizing the pure Paleo meals by adding extra 'ingredients'. In this book, I will only be using pure Paleo meals as a guide to a 'better life'. This book is written keeping in mind the physical side of a healthier lifestyle. You'll see how athletes can benefit from the Paleo diet; be it swimmers, wrestlers, runners, or players of any game. The claims will be backed by scientific evidence and you'll see progress within weeks.

Potato Salad Potato Salad Dressing Traditional Mayonnaise Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction Knowing what to cook was as important as knowing how to cook, for grandma. She also learned how to make the best of whatever was in front of her, from her grandmother, and so on for centuries. Millenniums ago, her ancestors when gathering in the woods for herbs and vegetables while the menfolk of the family trapped and hunted for meat, game and anything else edible and delicious. It was then grandma’s many times great-grandmother’s job to make all these ingredients into something delicious and healthy as well as palatable and nourishing. So she used her instinct and her creativity to make delicacies with the ingredients available at hand. Although science-fiction already has stories about scientists making complete little nutritional packages in the shape of pills that are going to take the shape of food in the coming centuries, we are very fortunate that we do not have to face that sort of blandness in our meals today. We still have the good fortune of going to the nearest market or the nearest organic garden and collecting fresh greens, as well as herbs. We have plenty of fresh meat at hand. And best of all, we have all the ingredients to make good wholesome food. We only hope, judging by the pleasure most of us get from eating, the preparation, cooking and serving of this nutritious food is going to be a human activity which is going to be around for a long time. But most of us cannot afford to have some of the more exotic ingredients, of which we dream. Either they are not available to us in our city. Or perhaps they are beyond our budget. Unfortunately, for a large percentage of people all over the world, budget constraints are the reason why they have to make do with makeshift meals instead of eating what nature intended for them – good wholesome, natural ingredients. Grandma was a frugal person. She lived in a time when the dollars earned by grandpa had to be stretched in such a manner that the whole family could be fed and fed well. Times changed and times of prosperity came along, and the eating habits of the whole family changed. Instead of two or three healthy meals in a day, there was food aplenty and the whole family could now afford to eat whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, and in large quantities. This naturally gave rise to problems including obesity. Also, by not regulating the meal intake as well as the quality of the meals, the quality of the general health of grandma’s children deteriorated as time went by. However, the circle of financial constraints has gone and come around again and the time for tightening belts and looking at our budgets has become the top priority. A majority of us all over the world again are looking for ways and means in which we can get the proper nutrition in the form of proteins, vitamins, minerals and energy, which our bodies required to keep functioning in a healthy manner.

In recorded history, rye was first grown in Germany, back in 400BC; this is not that long ago, considering wheat was being grown in Jordan as far back as 7500 BC! Rye is believed to have been originated from a class of Asian wild grass found in Iran, Armenia and Syria. The Roman philosopher and author, Pliny the Elder stated that rye was a food that wasn’t consumed until every other food item had been exhausted. Despite its ruggedness, rye slowly started gaining importance in Scandinavian and Eastern European cultures, and now, science has discovered that rye is a very nutritious cereal that can keep the body fit. More and more people are getting excited about this crop and are now looking for ways to incorporate it into their diet. This book comprehensively explains every aspect of rye & how it benefits the body.

The theory reminded humans of their ancestors and the healthy lives they used to live. It blamed the development of modern diseases on our present imperfect diet which it considers a recent innovation as compared to what our bodies have been adapting to, for the major part of history. It says that if we eat the diet of our ancestors, we will return to that healthy state and the diseases of our present time will fade away into non-existence. This is the concept behind paleo diet. The technological boom, along with the ever increasing cleverness of the marketing industry, has resulted in the release of a number of diets that could do “wonders” for you. The wonders part is definitely true, but the kinds of wonders most of them do come at great costs, therefore, it’s time to rethink as to where it all went wrong.A simple answer arises: we became modern. That’s right, we became modern and abandoned the techniques through which our ancestors survived. Also, we became so disillusioned with our lives that we fell into the simple trap of “making our lives better, the easy way”; that’s all you need to think about now. A simple glimpse of the Paleo Diet is that it’s the diet that was followed by our ancestors, well over 10,000 years ago. At that time it was the only diet and comprised of raw foods like meat. Moreover, at that time, humans had to rely on their natural skills for cooking the meal too, as there was rarely a sustainable living atmosphere at that time. This is the basis of the diet that will be used in this book to make your life better in every aspect. Also it must be known that many practitioners started creating their own personalized versions of the Paleo Diet, however in this book the pure & original version of the Paleo Diet will be used without any additives.

Preparing Ducklings Ducks and Water Feeding Your Ducks. Layers Mash for Ducks What is Grass Meal? What is Bean Meal? Drinking Water Conclusion Author Bio Introduction It must have been somewhere, and some time millenniums ago, when man found that the Mallard and Muscovy that he hunted in the marshes, and brought home to his family was a bird which could be domesticated. One is not very certain about which particular civilization decided that duck brought up in your own farmyard, was a good source of eating for the whole family. Roast duck, broiled duck, duck with seasonings and herbs, even wild duck, along with their cousins, the geese and the swans made excellent fare especially during times, when other food resources were not so easily available. Geese and swans are definitely not considered ducks, though they belong to the same family. The original ancestral species is the same, even though the characteristics differ. Geese and swans are larger in size and can be found in seawater, as well as in freshwater. Ducks are smaller in size, but prefer freshwater habitats. In the same manner, you should not confuse ducks with other aquatic birds like divers, coots and grebes. All of them are good eating, but they are unrelated, except for their liking for water. Apart from the meat content and eggs, ducks have also been reared for their soft down. Drakes are larger in size, when compared to the female ducks. Some of the popular species are Muscovy ducks, Mallards Paradise Shelduck and Aylesbury . The bills are long, broad and sometimes, they are serrated so that the ducks can feed on easily filtered aquatic plant and animal species. A duck shoot has always been a popular occupation of people who enjoy hunting for gain, especially when you are shooting these birds on the wing. A duck cannot fly when it is molting, and it normally molts before the duck group’s migration to a warmer climate.

A Beginner’s Guide to Cacti - How to Make a Cactus Garden Table of Contents Introduction Cactus Spines Choosing Your Cacti Growing Your Cacti Preparing Soil for Cactus Suitable Soil for Cactus Preparing Leaf Mold Potting Your Cactus Plant Watering Your Cactus Watering Methods Light spray During Summer Cactus Decaying? Sunlight Hibernation for Cactus Protecting Your Cactus in the Winter Planting Your Cactus Offsets How to grow Cacti from Cuttings Cactus as Food Diseases and pests Appendix Cactus clubs Author Bio Introduction For all those people who have confronted a prickly pear, at least once in their lives, cacti are boring spiny plants. Also, cactus plants have long been the subject of a superstition that any house, which has cactus growing in it is going to be filled up with strife and trouble and arguments. That is because of the spines of the cactus which are known as spikes promote ill feeling. There is something so odd about a cactus plant that it is often difficult until you grow them yourself to believe that these really belong to the plant kingdom. Historically, how many pioneer explorers of the desert areas in America saw them in the twilight and thought stories of monsters with their arms outstretched, and no heads, who turned into plants in the desert in the morning. No wonder, these giants which can grow up to 63 feet have always been the subject for legends. Even today, most of us are told tales about the cactus, which many of us half believe. Some of us have heard that cacti are poisonous. Other people are going to tell us that cacti flower only once in 100 years, and only when the area is subjected to rain. The first tale is totally and true. The second tale is also untrue because certain species of cacti will flower, almost every year, if given proper cultivation and care. Cactuses, also known as cacti belong to the family Opuntiaceae. Many of these plant varieties have lost true leaves, but they still have fluted and ribbed stems. The stems store water, and many of the desert varieties have very short growing time periods. Their periods of dormancy may be long, because many times, they have to go without water and rainfall for years, especially when they are growing in the Atacama Desert. Cactus originally are natives of the Americas, except for some species, which grow in Africa.
