It is 1600 and Dutch merchants are welcomed to the Banda islands. But, in the space of three years, Bandanese society changes as its people succumb to the temptations of Western materialism--a process that leads inevitably to social dissension and, finally, to rebellion. Written during the dying days of the Netherlands East Indies, Tambera is Utuy Tatang Sontani's most seminal work. In looking back to the beginnings of colonialism in the Indies, Sontani anticipates many of the philosophical and moral challenges that still confronted the nascent republic of Indonesia, three hundred and fifty years later.

The Palaeolithic Origins Of Human Burial written by Paul Pettitt and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-20 with Social Science categories.

Humans are unique in that they expend considerable effort and ingenuity in disposing of the dead. Some of the recognisable ways we do this are visible in the Palaeolithic archaeology of the Ice Age. The Palaeolithic Origins of Human Burial takes a novel approach to the long-term development of human mortuary activity – the various ways we deal with the dead and with dead bodies. It is the first comprehensive survey of Palaeolithic mortuary activity in the English language. Observations in the modern world as to how chimpanzees behave towards their dead allow us to identify ‘core’ areas of behaviour towards the dead that probably have very deep evolutionary antiquity. From that point, the palaeontological and archaeological records of the Pliocene and Pleistocene are surveyed. The core chapters of the book survey the mortuary activities of early hominins, archaic members of the genus Homo, early Homo sapiens, the Neanderthals, the Early and Mid Upper Palaeolithic, and the Late Upper Palaeolithic world. Burial is a striking component of Palaeolithic mortuary activity, although existing examples are odd and this probably does not reflect what modern societies believe burial to be, and modern ways of thinking of the dead probably arose only at the very end of the Pleistocene. When did symbolic aspects of mortuary ritual evolve? When did the dead themselves become symbols? In discussing such questions, The Palaeolithic Origins of Human Burial offers an engaging contribution to the debate on modern human origins. It is illustrated throughout, includes up-to-date examples from the Lower to Late Upper Palaeolithic, including information hitherto unpublished.

The definition od disease is any deviation from the normal physiology. In a more restricted sense, an infectious disease means a state or condition brought about by some microorganism or parasite, which is detrimental to the health and well being of the animal. Disease are either congenital which means that the animal is born with it inclusivelly or they are acquired sometime after birth. An acquired may be internal or external in its origin. The cause of internal diseases, such as glandular derangement or cancer were less known completely. Defects in the make up of certain cells of the body, which cause them to generate indefinitely, can be inherited.

Students, teachers and schools are under attack. The assault comes in the guise of ‘accountability’ and ‘choice’, cloaking itself in the ‘scientifically-proven’ with an over-emphasis of data. It combines a vilification of organized labor along with a promotion of the irrational, while readily blurring the line between utopia and dystopia. The attack abuses education as it disseminates self-serving propaganda, simultaneously covering up inconvenient truths like the United States government’s long and storied relationships with Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden in the Wars on Terror. It suppresses solidarity and compassion while it champions a divisive form of selfish individualism. Engaged Pedagogy, Enraged Pedagogy seeks to counter these attacks and expose the ideological impulses behind them. Marshalling critical pedagogy and an ethic of care with the notions of justified anger and the intellectual warrior, the book explores the non-antagonisitc dualisms between faith and science, reason and emotion; it deconstructs social texts ranging from ‘80s action films to dystopian literature as it uncovers the ideologies that structure and order our lives; it explores and champions the democratic potential of dialogue, mutuality, and authority, while challenging left essentialism and identity politics. The book also features an interview with Joe Kincheloe, a seminal figure in the field of critical pedagogy.
