The truth is that you can defeat your fears. With more than forty simple, effective techniques, you'll learn how to overcome every conceivable kind of anxiety without medication. Are you plagued by fears, phobias, or panic attacks? Do you toss and turn at night with a knot in your stomach, worrying about your job, your family, work, your health, or relationships? Do you suffer from crippling shyness, obsessive doubts, or feelings of insecurity? What you may not realize is that these fears are almost never based on reality. When you’re anxious, you’re actually fooling yourself, telling yourself things that simply aren’t true. See if you can recognize yourself in any of these distortions: All-or-Nothing Thinking: “My mind will go blank when I give my presentation at work, and everyone will think I’m an idiot.” Fortune Telling: “I just know I’ll freeze up and blow it when I take my test.” Mind Reading: “Everyone at this party can see how nervous I am.” Magnification: “Flying is so dangerous. I think this plane is going to crash!” Should Statements: “I shouldn’t be so anxious and insecure. Other people don’t feel this way.” Emotional Reasoning: “I feel like I’m on the verge of cracking up!” Self-Blame: “What’s wrong with me? I’m such a loser!” Mental Filter: “Why can’t I get anything done? My life seems like one long procrastination.” Now imagine what it would feel like to live a life that’s free of worries and self-doubt; to go to sleep at night feeling peaceful and relaxed; to overcome your shyness and have fun with other people; to give dynamic presentations without worrying yourself sick ahead of time; to enjoy greater creativity, productivity and self-confidence. With these forty techniques, you'll be able to put the lie to the distorted thoughts that plague you and your fears will immediately disappear. Dr. Burns also shares the latest research on the drugs commonly prescribed for anxiety and depression and explains why they may sometimes do more harm than good. This is not pop psychology but proven, fast-acting techniques that have been shown to be more effective than medications. When Panic Attacks is an indispensable handbook for anyone who’s worried sick and sick of worrying.

This book is particularly relevant in this current COVID pandemic and is very different from most self-help books on the subject in that it focuses on the self-limiting behaviours emanating from programs in the subconscious and ways to counter them. As an experienced hypnotherapist with a large practice, this is one of my great interests. The book is in two parts. The first part contains a self-diagnostic questionnaire. It looks at the true nature of anxiety and depression and debunks a number of commonly believed myths. In a sense, the terms 'anxiety' and 'depression' are just names for collections of self-limiting thoughts. The book is about managing those thoughts to achieve mental health. It also contains helpful strategies for parents and carers. Some of it is controversial, but I have been careful support the controversial parts with scientific and respected citations. The proposed book is 'hands on' with 36 useful and simple techniques to change the way we think for better mental health. The manuscript is short - just 30,000 words. The brevity is intentional as my aim is to make it as simple and accessible as possible for the busy Australian public and the reader in distress.

Anxiety Disorders written by Yong-Ku Kim and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-30 with Medical categories.

This book reviews all important aspects of anxiety disorders with the aim of shedding new light on these disorders through combined understanding of traditional and novel paradigms. The book is divided into five sections, the first of which reinterprets anxiety from a network science perspective, examining the altered topological properties of brain networks in anxiety disorders. The second section discusses recent advances in understanding of the neurobiology of anxiety disorders, covering, for example, gene-environmental interactions and the roles of neurotransmitter systems and the oxytocin system. A wide range of diagnostic and clinical issues in anxiety disorders are then addressed, before turning attention to contemporary treatment approaches in the context of novel bio-psychosocial-behavioral models, including bio- and neurofeedback, cognitive behavioral therapy, neurostimulation, virtual reality exposure therapy, pharmacological interventions, psychodynamic therapy, and CAM options. The final section is devoted to precision psychiatry in anxiety disorders, an increasingly important area as we move toward personalized treatment. Anxiety Disorders will be of interest for all researchers and clinicians in the field.
