L'antiquité gréco-romaine a longtemps été reléguée dans la monochromie. Non seulement la plupart des monuments et des statues nous sont parvenus décolorés, mais, de plus, les notations chromatiques sont peu nombreuses dans le paysage que nous donnent à voir les sources littéraires. A ces lacunes de nature documentaire, se sont ajoutés des obstacles épistémologiques majeurs. Après bien des débats, la polychromie antique est aujourd'hui admise. Ce volume est issu des journées d'études "L'antiquité en couleurs: catégories, pratiques, représentations", organisées à Paris, les 12 et 13 décembre 2005, par l'atelier "Antiquité et sciences sociales" du Centre Louis Gernet de recherches comparées sur les sociétés anciennes.
