The realization that the use of components off the shelf (COTS) could reduce costs sparked the evolution of the massive parallel computing systems available today. The main problem with such systems is the development of suitable operating systems, algorithms and application software that can utilise the potential processing power of large numbers of processors. As a result, systems comprising millions of processors are still limited in the applications they can efficiently solve. Two alternative paradigms that may offer a solution to this problem are Quantum Computers (QC) and Brain Inspired Computers (BIC). This book presents papers from the 14th edition of the biennial international conference on High Performance Computing - From Clouds and Big Data to Exascale and Beyond, held in Cetraro, Italy, from 2 - 6 July 2018. It is divided into 4 sections covering data science, quantum computing, high-performance computing, and applications. The papers presented during the workshop covered a wide spectrum of topics on new developments in the rapidly evolving supercomputing field – including QC and BIC – and a selection of contributions presented at the workshop are included in this volume. In addition, two papers presented at a workshop on Brain Inspired Computing in 2017 and an overview of work related to data science executed by a number of universities in the USA, parts of which were presented at the 2018 and previous workshops, are also included. The book will be of interest to all those whose work involves high-performance computing.

This edited book aims to present the state of the art in research and development of the convergence of high-performance computing and parallel programming for various engineering and scientific applications. The book has consolidated algorithms, techniques, and methodologies to bridge the gap between the theoretical foundations of academia and implementation for research, which might be used in business and other real-time applications in the future. The book outlines techniques and tools used for emergent areas and domains, which include acceleration of large-scale electronic structure simulations with heterogeneous parallel computing, characterizing power and energy efficiency of a data-centric high-performance computing runtime and applications, security applications of GPUs, parallel implementation of multiprocessors on MPI using FDTD, particle-based fused rendering, design and implementation of particle systems for mesh-free methods with high performance, and evolving topics on heterogeneous computing. In the coming days the need to converge HPC, IoT, cloud-based applications will be felt and this volume tries to bridge that gap.

Fast Fourier Transform Algorithms For Parallel Computers written by Daisuke Takahashi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-05 with Computers categories.

Following an introduction to the basis of the fast Fourier transform (FFT), this book focuses on the implementation details on FFT for parallel computers. FFT is an efficient implementation of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), and is widely used for many applications in engineering, science, and mathematics. Presenting many algorithms in pseudo-code and a complexity analysis, this book offers a valuable reference guide for graduate students, engineers, and scientists in the field who wish to apply FFT to large-scale problems. Parallel computation is becoming indispensable in solving the large-scale problems increasingly arising in a wide range of applications. The performance of parallel supercomputers is steadily improving, and it is expected that a massively parallel system with hundreds of thousands of compute nodes equipped with multi-core processors and accelerators will be available in the near future. Accordingly, the book also provides up-to-date computational techniques relevant to the FFT in state-of-the-art parallel computers. Following the introductory chapter, Chapter 2 introduces readers to the DFT and the basic idea of the FFT. Chapter 3 explains mixed-radix FFT algorithms, while Chapter 4 describes split-radix FFT algorithms. Chapter 5 explains multi-dimensional FFT algorithms, Chapter 6 presents high-performance FFT algorithms, and Chapter 7 addresses parallel FFT algorithms for shared-memory parallel computers. In closing, Chapter 8 describes parallel FFT algorithms for distributed-memory parallel computers.
