This book explores various explanatory frameworks for paranormal encounters. It opens with the story of an inexplicable human figure seen crossing a secluded hotel corridor, interpreted as a ghost by the sole witness. The subsequent chapters explore the three most important historical perspectives accounting for this and other types of paranormal experience. Each perspective is examined from first principles, with specific reference to what happened in the corridor, how it happened, why it happened, and who might be responsible. The first perspective considers the experience to be legitimate – to be something real – and various possibilities are presented that are grounded in the paranormal and parapsychological literature, among which a “ghost” is one putative explanation. In turn, the second perspective treats the experience as being wholly illegitimate. With reference to psychological theory, the ghost sighting is a product of erroneous consciousness. The third perspective is different yet again, and considers the sighting to be authentic, but argues that explaining the ghost requires a radical departure from conventional models of reality and consciousness. By contrasting these three paths, the book provides a valuable resource for readers interested in the philosophical and psychological origins of explanations for paranormal experiences, from the 19th century to the present. It will appeal to general readers in addition to students and scholars of parapsychology, anomalistic psychology, and consciousness studies.

From the author of the award-winning science fiction adventure The Chronocar: An Urban Adventure In Time.If ghosts can visit us, can we visit them?Ron Lewis' education and career are firmly rooted in science. But a curse that dates back to the days of slavery has plagued him since childhood.Born in a black ghetto in Chicago in the 1960s, Ron's pragmatism is at odds with his experiences; whether it's the trials of an interracial relationship or the supernatural forces that he can't seem to avoid.Just when he thinks he's finally found peace of mind, Ron's life is upended by tragedy. He gets the opportunity to use science to try to communicate with the dead, and to finally confront the evil that has plagued him and his family for generations. That's when all hell breaks loose."Edge of Perception has every ingredient of a brilliant novel. If you are interested in exploring the realms of the paranormal, the facts, the myths, the believers view, the skeptics view, the possibilities and the probabilities then this book is for you. The purpose of this book is to provide a record of information gathered from various sources; taking into account spiritual, scientific, skeptical and nonplus angles of perception. Besides being an interesting read for those new to the Paranormal field it is hoped that this book will be a valuable asset to the hardened Investigator in their bid to reach his or her ultimate goal; which, probably, is to prove or disprove the existence of some form of life after death. The majority of us like a good ghost story, but what makes it even better is if that ghost story is based on fact. This book covers personal accounts that were related to the author by real people. Normal, level headed people from all walks of life; the majority of them being quite skeptical until they experienced something that they could not explain. Whether you are a believer or not there are some accounts within this book that defy logical explanation. The author has added a few legends (as she believes there is always some truth attached to myths), a little documented history (to enhance some of the stories) and a few Paranormal Investigation reports.

Interest in psychic and paranormal phenomena has never been greater—which also means there is more confusion than ever about which claims are bogus and which are authentic. That's why Jack Rourke's perspective is so valuable. As both a practicing psychic and a dedicated parapsychological researcher, Jack is uniquely qualified to provide this inside-out, shockingly candid, and thorough explanation of what psychic perception really is... and what it isn't. In The Rational PsychicTM, Jack Rourke presents a detailed, thoughtful, and often surprising examination of seemingly supernatural and psychic events. Relying on decades of first-hand experiences and scholarly investigation, he explores fascinating subjects such as: Why all people are extrasensory but not necessarily psychic • The difference between genuine psychic ability and paranormal perception • The hidden dangers of psychic development • What's really occurring when sensitive people discern ghosts and malicious spirits • How neuroscience and modern physics account for psychic perception • How to identify, access, and strengthen your psychic abilities "You don't have to surrender logic or adopt any exotic beliefs to accept that psychic phenomena are real," Jack Rourke explains. "Nor do you have to automatically deny any evidence about the paranormal to be a critical thinker." Whether you are seeking answers about your own mysterious experiences, interested in developing your own psychic gifts, or simply a curious skeptic, The Rational Psychic is a must-read book that will challenge what you think you know while making sense of the unexplained.

Extrasensory perception is the ability to hear others' thoughts, predict the future, and have visions. It sounds like a plot point in a superhero fantasy film, but this intriguing resource reveals there might be more truth to it than fiction. Ancient history, including the Greeks' oracles, the Ides of March, and Joan of Arc, provides compelling context. Reports of premonitions and out-of-body experiences have been ample enough for the government to get involved. These riveting accounts will make readers ponder the facts and question whether these phenomenon are coincidence or something else entirely.

An Introduction To The Psychology Of Paranormal Belief And Experience written by Tony Jinks and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11-08 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

When someone admits to a strange experience, such as witnessing an unidentified flying object, having telepathic hunches, or seeing angels or ghosts, listeners usually explain it away as mistaken perception, intoxication, ignorance, or even mental illness. Though these unsympathetic psychology-based explanations remain the most popular responses to claims of the supernatural, those who use them often have little understanding of what such dismissive "solutions" actually entail. This study offers a balanced and accessible analysis of various explanations for the paranormal. By providing insight into how these theories are applied, or misapplied, to inquiry into the paranormal, it clarifies the relationship between the field of psychology and the supernatural. In Search Of Psi written by Adam J. Rock and has been published by Pari Pub this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

The editors, Dr. Adam J. Rock and Dr. Lance Storm, put In Search of Psi together because they noted that the vast majority of similar books on the intriguing subject of parapsychology are actually too lightweight and lack any real depth on the more serious aspects of the paranormal. Rock and Storm decided to assemble a collection of papers by a diverse group of authors, researchers, experimenters, and theorists, culminating in a total of eighteen chapters on a wide variety of paranormal subjects under three main themes: extrasensory perception (mind-to-mind communication), psychokinesis (mind over matter), and life after death. Topics covered include telepathy (thought transference), precognition (seeing the future), human levitation, multiple dimensions, and the riddle of space–time. There are chapters that thoughtfully delve into the possibility that human personality can survive bodily death. In Search of Psi discusses communication with departed loved ones, a subject familiar to many people who have seen television programs featuring the famous American psychic John Edward.
