A Parasitologia estuda o fenômeno ecológico de interdependência de espécies denominado parasitismo. Na Parasitologia Humana, são contempladas as relações entre protozoários, helmintos, artrópodes e o ser humano, relações estas que, em determinadas circunstâncias, podem levar ao surgimento de doenças parasitárias, algumas das quais são importantes problemas de saúde pública mundiais. Assim, o estudo da Parasitologia Humana permite a compreensão de como o homem entra em contato com organismos que podem, sob certas condições, desencadear as doenças parasitárias. Para tanto, é de grande relevância o conhecimento sobre a biologia dos parasitos, o modo como são transmitidos, o que podem causar no homem e as consequências de suas ações e/ou da resposta do hospedeiro a essas ações. A compreensão da dinâmica entre os elos do sistema parasito-hospedeiro-ambiente torna possível a adoção de medidas que visem o controle, a prevenção e até a erradicação das doenças parasitárias, sendo estes conhecimentos essenciais para os futuros profissionais da área de saúde. Na presente obra, serão abordados dez relevantes tópicos de Parasitologia Humana na forma de resumos.
