Buku ini mengajak kita untuk membuka pemahaman bahwa kepemimpinan gereja berbeda dengan model kepemimpinan sekuler. Gereja tidak boleh dikelola seperti mengelola perusahaan, bisnis, atau kerajaan-kerajaan duniawi. Jadi, buku ini menekankan perlunya fungsi orangtua (parenting) ROHANI bagi pemimpin jemaat lebih dari sekadar jabatan struktural gerejawi. Para pemimpin dalam gereja tidak hanya memangku kedudukan atau jabatan, tetapi harus berfungsi sebagai bapa atau ibu, sebagaimana orangtua dalam keluarga. Kepemimpinan yang hanya menekankan jabatan atau kedudukan akan melemahkan kepemimpinan gereja itu sendiri. Namun, kepemimpinan parenting akan mengefektifkan para pemimpin menghadapi dinamika pelayanan.
