The first standalone in C.J. Duggan's addictive HEART OF THE CITY series - a sassy, sexy romance from the internationally bestselling author of the SUMMER and PARADISE series. 'You're breaking up with me!' He was silent. 'In Paris.' Eyes dropping. 'Under the Eiffel-fucking-Tower!' I screamed. Twenty-five-year-old Claire Shorten had looked forward to spending a romantic weekend in Paris for as long as she could remember, and now it was here - three blissful days of strolling through cobbled streets arm-in-arm with her beloved, eating copious amounts of baked goods and soaking up the culture through each and every pore of her body. Well, at least, that was how she'd pictured it . . . Even after her boyfriend dumps her rather unceremoniously in the most romantic place on earth, Claire is determined not to give up on her dream altogether - with or without a boyfriend. She finds herself a job in the kitchen of a small hotel; Michelin-starred it most certainly is not, but somehow Claire makes a place for herself amidst the dirty dishes and the foreign misfits who run the place. When the restaurant attracts the attention of the enigmatic - if not slightly terrifying - tycoon Louis Delarue, and Claire manages to survive his high-powered business luncheon from hell, she knows that she can survive anything, surely. But all bets are off when Louis makes a game-changing decision: he's coming back for a second course . . . PRAISE FOR C.J. DUGGAN'S HEART OF THE CITY SERIES: 'Fun and sexy ... Cheeky leading lady, dashing love interest, family complications and a fun setting - this book does have it all.' - Fictional Thoughts on London Bound 'I'm really glad that I've discovered C.J. This beautiful book carries us along a very special Parisian walk that enables us to discover today's Paris, the Parisians' Paris. The photographs take us from a period to another, from a quarter to another, from the XIIth century Notre-Dame to the Great Library of the XXIst century. A short text going straight to the essential retraces the history of the capital going back to the Parisii of the île de la Cité, evoking the history and the great works undertook along the centuries to clean up the city, make it bigger and give it its presentday silhouette, where old and new merge for the greatest pleasure of all. The secret of Paris perhaps lies in the fact that it managed to preserve the best of every period while renewing itself all the time. If Paris and photography get on well, it is probably due to all those different lights which bathe the stones, the trees and the river Seine. Here, Hervé Champollion displays this fantastic diversity which enables each monument to be reborn with every change in the sun's position, offering us some of his most beautiful photographs, sometimes unexpected, of Paris.

“I adored The Light of Paris. It’s so lovely and big-hearted—it made me long for Paris.”—Jojo Moyes, New York Times-bestselling author of Me Before You and After You The miraculous novel from the New York Times–bestselling author of The Weird Sisters—a sensation beloved by critics and readers alike. Madeleine is trapped—by her family's expectations, by her controlling husband, and by her own fears—in an unhappy marriage and a life she never wanted. From the outside, it looks like she has everything, but on the inside, she fears she has nothing that matters. In Madeleine’s memories, her grandmother Margie is the kind of woman she should have been—elegant, reserved, perfect. But when Madeleine finds a diary detailing Margie’s bold, romantic trip to Jazz Age Paris, she meets the grandmother she never knew: a dreamer who defied her strict, staid family and spent an exhilarating summer writing in cafés, living on her own, and falling for a charismatic artist. Despite her unhappiness, when Madeleine’s marriage is threatened, she panics, escaping to her hometown and staying with her critical, disapproving mother. In that unlikely place, shaken by the revelation of a long-hidden family secret and inspired by her grandmother’s bravery, Madeleine creates her own Parisian summer—reconnecting to her love of painting, cultivating a vibrant circle of creative friends, and finding a kindred spirit in a down-to-earth chef who reminds her to feed both her body and her heart. Margie and Madeleine’s stories intertwine to explore the joys and risks of living life on our own terms, of defying the rules that hold us back from our dreams, and of becoming the people we are meant to be.

Illuminated Paris written by Hollis Clayson and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-16 with Art categories.

The City of Light. For many, these four words instantly conjure late nineteenth-century Paris and the garish colors of Toulouse-Lautrec’s iconic posters. More recently, the Eiffel Tower’s nightly show of sparkling electric lights has come to exemplify our fantasies of Parisian nightlife. Though we reflect longingly on such scenes, in Illuminated Paris, Hollis Clayson shows that there’s more to these clichés than meets the eye. In this richly illustrated book, she traces the dramatic evolution of lighting in Paris and how artists responded to the shifting visual and cultural scenes that resulted from these technologies. While older gas lighting produced a haze of orange, new electric lighting was hardly an improvement: the glare of experimental arc lights—themselves dangerous—left figures looking pale and ghoulish. As Clayson shows, artists’ representations of these new colors and shapes reveal turn-of-the-century concerns about modernization as electric lighting came to represent the harsh glare of rapidly accelerating social change. At the same time, in part thanks to American artists visiting the city, these works of art also produced our enduring romantic view of Parisian glamour and its Belle Époque.

Discovering the city through the magic of Marsilio's pop-up series Children's book author and illustrator extraordinaire Dario Cestaro (born 1971) presents the beauty of Paris through the spectacular paper architecture of a pop-up book. Cestaro takes young--and young at heart--readers through a fascinating journey through Paris' most famous buildings: the Eiffel Tower, the Bourse de Commerce, the Louvre, the cathedral of Notre-Dame, the Centre Pompidou and the Arc de Triomphe. This lively tour through Cestaro's colorful pages is enlivened by short texts and sweet anecdotes that tell a history of the city through its most iconic buildings. Readers will learn about the construction of the Eiffel Tower for the 1889 World's Fair, designed by the well-known "architect of iron" after whom it is named; the pre- and post-Revolutionary histories of the Louvre and the Jardin des Tuileries, given first to princes and then to the people; Tadao Ando's painstaking restoration of the 18th-century Bourse de Commerce to turn it into a contemporary art gallery, and much more. Cestaro's tour through Paris follows the publication of similar volumes on other great European cities: Venice, Florence, Milan and Rome. Cestaro's captivating drawings will help even the youngest readers to recognize the main features of the city, and offer a special glimpse of the city's landscape and history.
