Die Beiträge aus diesem Sammelband zur Tagung "Prophetische Predigt – parteiische Kirche" im Herbst 2016 in Hamburg fokussieren die Funktion und Herstellung der Parteilichkeit in Predigten. Die Texte analysieren die Konstitutionsbedingungen parteiischer und vielfach politisch orientierender Predigten in praktisch-theologischer, homiletischer und systematisch-theologischer Perspektive, ergänzt durch einen kirchenleitenden Problemaufriss. [Partisan Preaching. Politics, Society and the Public as Horizons of Preaching] In sermons social, economical, and political relations are frequently discussed and commented with great self-awareness. These descriptions of global and local developments in homiletic contexts publicly take sides for the Gospel, and are often associated with certain positions. The contributions from this anthology to the conference "Prophetic Preaching – Partisan Church" in Hamburg autumn 2016 focus the function and production of the partiality in preaching. The texts analyze the constitutional conditions of biased and sometimes political sermons in a practical theological, homiletic and systematic-theological perspective, supplemented by a practical, church-leading problem breakdown.

Christian and Islamic sermons from past and present, and their preachers, are analyzed to reveal the socio-cultural dynamics of religious speeches. Part I focuses on the explicit contribution of sermons in socio-cultural transformation processes. It shows how sermons connect with holy texts, religious norms of the specific group, and social-cultural contexts. Part II analyzes the dynamic tension between normativity and popularity. Rather than juxtaposing normative stances and the popularity of sermons, it shows how that normativity can itself contribute to popularity and the quest of popularity carries its own normative stances. Part III explores the ritual embeddedness of religious speech in the sermon in relation to social dynamics, normativity, and popularity, and shows how speech and rituals have a reciprocal relationship.

How can one describe the pluralisation of the religious realm, which is of such significance for processes of social change? How can it be done from an international perspective? The book sharpens the idea of religious pluralisation by elucidating it against the backdrop of specific religious phenomena and practices. Concepts and interpretations of religious praxis are correlated here in a way that has proven most fruitful in the field of Practical Theology. We take a closer look at twelve highly relevant topics that are formative for the practical-theological discourses in South Africa and Germany: poverty and wealth, education, transitional rites and passages, health, religious community formation and the future of the Church, beginning and end of life, transformation of the media, migration and interculturality, populism and radicalisation in religion and knowledge, processing of the past, communal living. Each topic will be introduced by one scholar from a certain country and commented on by another. The conversational procedure contributes to a contextual theology that understands theology essentially as dialogue. In all contributions pluralisation is the overarching topic. It shall be developed as a conception and theory respectively, both of which are not self-evident their theoretical implications must be explicitly unfolded.

The articles in this volume focus on the changes that this relationship has undergone from the time of Charlemagne to the present day. Research in sermon-history is thereby understood as a decidedly interdisciplinary project. Just as sermons always go beyond the purely internal religious matters, research on sermons requires a multi-perspective approach: theology and political science, historical, literary and social studies can each assert their own interests and their own approaches to the phenomenon of sermon.

Vom 10. bis 13. September 2017 veranstaltete die Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Theologie den XVI. Europäischen Kongress für Theologie an der Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Wien. Am ersten Tag ging es um das Christentum in der europäischen Geschichte, am zweiten um das Christentum in der europäischen Pluralität und am dritten um das Christentum in der europäischen Wissenskultur; im Mittelpunkt der Eröffnungsveranstaltung standen religiöse Vielfalt und Teilhabe im Einwanderungsland Österreich. Der Band dokumentiert die Plenar- und Sektionsvorträge des Kongresses. [Christianity and Europe. XVIth European Congress for Theology] From September 10 to 13, 2017, the Scientific Society for Theology organized the XVIth European Congress for Theology at the Theological Faculty of the Vienna University. The congress, under the theme "Christianity and Europe", dealt with the question which specific self- image Christianity has been given by the European continent and what could be the current and future impact of the Christian faith on European identity. The subthemes of the three days were Christianity in European history, Christianity within European plurality, and Christianity in European knowledge culture. The opening event focused on the theme of religious diversity and participation in Austria, regarded as an immigration country.
