In this edited volume leaders in the field of partial differential equations present recent work on topics in PDEs arising from geometry and physics. The papers originate from a 2015 research school organized by CIMPA and MIMS in Hammamet, Tunisia to celebrate the 60th birthday of the late Professor Abbas Bahri. The opening chapter commemorates his life and work. While the research presented in this book is cutting-edge, the treatment throughout is at a level accessible to graduate students. It includes short courses offering readers a unique opportunity to learn the state of the art in evolution equations and mathematical models in physics, which will serve as an introduction for students and a useful reference for established researchers. Finally, the volume includes many open problems to inspire the next generation.

The Geometrical Study Of Differential Equations written by Joshua Allensworth Leslie and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Mathematics categories.

This volume contains papers based on some of the talks given at the NSF-CBMS conference on ``The Geometrical Study of Differential Equations'' held at Howard University (Washington, DC). The collected papers present important recent developments in this area, including the treatment of nontransversal group actions in the theory of group invariant solutions of PDEs, a method for obtaining discrete symmetries of differential equations, the establishment of a group-invariant version of the variational complex based on a general moving frame construction, the introduction of a new variational complex for the calculus of difference equations and an original structural investigation of Lie-Backlund transformations. The book opens with a modern and illuminating overview of Lie's line-sphere correspondence and concludes with several interesting open problems arising from symmetry analysis of PDEs. It offers a rich source of inspiration for new or established researchers in the field. This book can serve nicely as a companion volume to a forthcoming book written by the principle speaker at the conference, Professor Niky Kamran, to be published in the AMS series, CBMS Regional Conference Series in Mathematics.

Variational And Pde Methods In Nonlinear Science written by Fabrice Bethuel and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-01 with Mathematics categories.

This book presents three short courses on topics at the intersection of Calculus of Variations, PDEs and Material Science, based on lectures given at the CIME summer school “Variational and PDE Methods in Nonlinear Science”, held in Cetraro (Italy), July 10–14, 2023. Fabrice Bethuel discusses aympototics for Allen–Cahn systems, providing an overview of classical methods and tools for the scalar case and further results for the two-dimensional vectorial case. An alternate monotonicity formula is described, and the still open parabolic vectorial case is considered. Angkana Rüland considers the modelling and analysis of microstructures in shape-memory alloys, including material on quasiconvexity, differential inclusions, rigidity of the two-well problem under BV-regularity assumptions, and recent results on the quantitative dichotomy between rigidity and flexibility. Duvan Henao focuses on existence theory in nonlinear elasticity, where a central role is played by the Jacobian determinant. The methods developed have implications for the analysis of magnetoelasticity and nematic elastomers. The volume is aimed at graduate students and researchers interested in the applications of PDEs and the calculus of variations to the theory of phase transitions, fluid dynamics, materials science, and elasticity theory.

Partial Differential Equations Iii written by Michael Taylor and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-10 with Mathematics categories.

The third of three volumes on partial differential equations, this is devoted to nonlinear PDE. It treats a number of equations of classical continuum mechanics, including relativistic versions, as well as various equations arising in differential geometry, such as in the study of minimal surfaces, isometric imbedding, conformal deformation, harmonic maps, and prescribed Gauss curvature. In addition, some nonlinear diffusion problems are studied. It also introduces such analytical tools as the theory of L Sobolev spaces, H lder spaces, Hardy spaces, and Morrey spaces, and also a development of Calderon-Zygmund theory and paradifferential operator calculus. The book is aimed at graduate students in mathematics, and at professional mathematicians with an interest in partial differential equations, mathematical physics, differential geometry, harmonic analysis and complex analysis

Partial Differential Equations written by Michael E. Taylor and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-06-25 with Mathematics categories.

This text provides an introduction to the theory of partial differential equations. It introduces basic examples of partial differential equations, arising in continuum mechanics, electromagnetism, complex analysis and other areas, and develops a number of tools for their solution, including particularly Fourier analysis, distribution theory, and Sobolev spaces. These tools are applied to the treatment of basic problems in linear PDE, including the Laplace equation, heat equation, and wave equation, as well as more general elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic equations. Companion texts, which take the theory of partial differential equations further, are AMS volume 116, treating more advanced topics in linear PDE, and AMS volume 117, treating problems in nonlinear PDE. This book is addressed to graduate students in mathematics and to professional mathematicians, with an interest in partial differential equations, mathematical physics, differential geometry, harmonic analysis, and complex analysis.
