El presente texto es el resultado de una investigación realizada en Medellín sobre los factores que influyen en la creación y la consolidación de una empresa. Los resultados aquí presentados tienen el propósito de animar a los emprendedores para que continúen con su proyecto de vida empresarial y a las instituciones y al Estado para que apoyen el fortalecimiento de los programas de creación y consolidación de empresas. El emprendimiento se ha establecido en los últimos tiempos como una alternativa viable para el desarrollo y el crecimiento económico y social de las regiones, por eso, el interés de estudiar aquellos factores que mayor relevancia tienen en la creación y la consolidación de una empresa. Si bien el estudio se centró en el contexto de Medellín, los resultados presentados podrán servir de base para el fortalecimiento de los programas de emprendimiento en otros contextos nacionales, regionales e internacionales, mediante la canalización de mejores esfuerzos y recursos para que el proceso de creación y consolidación de las empresas se ajuste en mejor medida a las características sociales, económicas y culturales de cada localidad en particular. El texto se desarrolla en cinco temas que se presentan en cinco capítulos que respectivamente son casos de emprendimiento, aspectos conceptuales del proceso de creación de empresas, resultados estadísticos de la creación de empresas, aspectos conceptuales del proceso de consolidación de empresas y resultados factoriales de la consolidación de empresas. En la parte final del texto se presentan las conclusiones y las recomendaciones. Como contribución y conclusión, los factores relevantes en la creación de empresas son los contactos, la educación, el capital y la capacidad de negociación. En cuanto a la consolidación de empresas los factores más relevantes son el riesgo, la perseverancia, la estrategia, el personal y el crecimiento.

A novel perspective on the biological mechanisms of episodic memory, focusing on the encoding and retrieval of spatiotemporal trajectories. Episodic memory proves essential for daily function, allowing us to remember where we parked the car, what time we walked the dog, or what a friend said earlier. In How We Remember, Michael Hasselmo draws on recent developments in neuroscience to present a new model describing the brain mechanisms for encoding and remembering such events as spatiotemporal trajectories. He reviews physiological breakthroughs on the regions implicated in episodic memory, including the discovery of grid cells, the cellular mechanisms of persistent spiking and resonant frequency, and the topographic coding of space and time. These discoveries inspire a theory for understanding the encoding and retrieval of episodic memory not just as discrete snapshots but as a dynamic replay of spatiotemporal trajectories, allowing us to "retrace our steps" to recover a memory. In the main text of the book, he presents the model in narrative form, accessible to scholars and advanced undergraduates in many fields. In the appendix, he presents the material in a more quantitative style, providing mathematical descriptions appropriate for advanced undergraduates and graduate students in neuroscience or engineering.
