This book provides insights into the tight connection between fundamental math and mechanics, the basic grounding of physics. It demonstrates that quantum, classical, and relativistic mechanics, historically (and separately) formulated upon an experimental basis, can be regarded as links of a single theoretical chain readily extracted from a simple mathematical medium. It uses mathematical tools to endow formerly abstract entities, such as quantum wave-function and classical action function, with original and clear geometric images, strongly simplifying them. The book comprises the author’s lectures, manual texts, typical problems and tests, and many illustrations, and will be of interest to students of all levels majoring in mathematics, physics and advanced engineering programs.

Theoretical Mechanics Of Particles And Continua written by Alexander L. Fetter and has been published by Courier Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-12-16 with Science categories.

This two-part text fills what has often been a void in the first-year graduate physics curriculum. Through its examination of particles and continua, it supplies a lucid and self-contained account of classical mechanics — which in turn provides a natural framework for introducing many of the advanced mathematical concepts in physics. The text opens with Newton's laws of motion and systematically develops the dynamics of classical particles, with chapters on basic principles, rotating coordinate systems, lagrangian formalism, small oscillations, dynamics of rigid bodies, and hamiltonian formalism, including a brief discussion of the transition to quantum mechanics. This part of the book also considers examples of the limiting behavior of many particles, facilitating the eventual transition to a continuous medium. The second part deals with classical continua, including chapters on string membranes, sound waves, surface waves on nonviscous fluids, heat conduction, viscous fluids, and elastic media. Each of these self-contained chapters provides the relevant physical background and develops the appropriate mathematical techniques, and problems of varying difficulty appear throughout the text.

Introduction To Mechanics Of Particles And Systems written by Costas J. Papachristou and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-09 with Science categories.

This book is based on the author’s lecture notes for his Introductory Newtonian Mechanics course at the Hellenic Naval Academy. In order to familiarize students with the use of several basic mathematical tools, such as vectors, differential operators and differential equations, it first presents the elements of vector analysis that are needed in the subsequent chapters. Further, the Mathematical Supplement at the end of the book offers a brief introduction to the concepts of differential calculus mentioned. The main text is divided into three parts, the first of which presents the mechanics of a single particle from both the kinetic and the dynamical perspectives. The second part then focuses on the mechanics of more complex structures, such as systems of particles, rigid bodies and ideal fluids, while the third part consists of 60 fully solved problems. Though chiefly intended as a primary text for freshman-level physics courses, the book can also be used as a supplemental (tutorial) resource for introductory courses on classical mechanics for physicists and engineers

Fluid and Particle Mechanics provides information pertinent to hydraulics or fluid mechanics. This book discusses the properties and behavior of liquids and gases in motion and at rest. Organized into nine chapters, this book begins with an overview of the science of fluid mechanics that is subdivided accordingly into two main branches, namely, fluid statics and fluid dynamics. This text then examines the flowmeter devices used for the measurement of flow of liquids and gases. Other chapters consider the principle of resistance in open channel flow, which is based on improper application of the Torricellian law of efflux. This book discusses as well the use of centrifugal pumps for exchanging energy between a mechanical system and a liquid. The final chapter deals with the theory of settling, which finds an extensive application in several industrially important processes. This book is a valuable resource for chemical engineers, students, and researchers.

This book examines the study of mechanical systems as well as its links to other sciences of nature. It presents the fundamentals behind how mechanical theories are constructed and details the solving methodology and mathematical tools used: vectors, tensors and notions of field theory. It also offers continuous and discontinuous phenomena as well as various mechanical magnitudes in a unitary form by means of the theory of distributions.

This book takes readers through all the steps necessary for solving hard problems in continuum mechanics with smooth particle methods. Pedagogical problems clarify the generation of initial conditions, the treatment of boundary conditions, the integration of the equations of motion, and the analysis of the results. Particular attention is paid to the parallel computing necessary for large problems and to the graphic displays, including debugging software, required for the efficient completion of computational projects. The book is self-contained, with summaries of classical particle mechanics and continuum mechanics for both fluids and solids, computer languages, the stability of numerical methods, Lyapunov spectra, and message-passing parallel computing. The main difficulties faced by meshless particle methods are discussed and the means of overcoming them are illustrated with worked examples.
