La Resistenza in Italia fu solo comunista? Questo è ciò che una narrazione agiografica ci ha fatto credere in questi anni. In realtà lo studio delle carte fa emergere che le Resistenze, nel Belpaese martoriato dalla guerra, erano due. Mentre i cattolici e i moderati volevano limitare l'uso della violenza, delle rappresaglie e dell'odio tra italiani, i comunisti, favorevoli alla lotta armata, rifiutavano il confronto, ubbidendo unicamente al partito. Alfredo Pizzoni nel 1955 dichiarava a Milano: «...la guerra civile che insanguinò l'Italia e intorbidò le coscienze noi non la volemmo ma la subimmo». Cosa non ha funzionato nella componente cattolico-moderata, costretta ad accettare lo scempio della guerra civile? Perché non si è tenuto conto delle alternative proposte da autorevoli soggetti della Resistenza? Perché nel dopoguerra quasi nessuno si è preoccupato di far luce su questo contrasto, preferendo dare risalto al ruolo egemone del partito comunista? Un posto in prima fila, un thriller che è anche un'analisi storica, utilizza fonti già pubblicate, ma ignorate, per mostrare un altro scenario della Resistenza. E per dare qualche risposta.
