EL PRIMER BEST-SELLER DE ESPAÑA El librero de Segovia Hernando del Castillo llevaba 20 años recopilando los poemas que circulaban entre sus coetáneos de finales del siglo XV en España cuando, por fin, encontró en Valencia al mercader Lorenzo Ganot y a Cristóbal Cofman, un impresor de Basilea, dispuestos a invertir dinero y esfuerzo en el desafío de editar una compilación de poemas y coplas que no se hubieran publicado con anterioridad o tuvieran una difusión muy restringida. La empresa buscaba la rentabilidad, por lo que la Valencia de la época, en plena ebullición política y cultural, era el marco idóneo. Así pues, en 1511 ven la luz los primeros 1.000 ejemplares del CANCIONERO GENERAL, una monumental antología construida sobre cancionerillos individuales y colectivos, a partir de pliegos sueltos, originales autógrafos y relatos orales, que se iba a convertir en el soporte libresco para la educación lírica y sentimental de varias generaciones, una obra capital, vehículo de la vieja lírica, cuya influencia se extiende al Siglo de Oro. Esta edición en cinco tomos del CANCIONERO GENERAL que recoge los textos de la primera edición y de las ocho reimpresiones que se hicieron en el siglo XVI, ha contado con el patrocinio de la Biblioteca Valenciana de la Generalidad Valenciana.
