The Bible Speaks written by Robert Davidson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03 with Religion categories.

THE BIBLE SPEAKS-but what exactly does the Bible have to say to us ? And what does it mean when it says it ? Neither question is easy to answer, for the Bible is not one book, but many ; the historical background, covering a great sweep of time, deeply affects the form and content of what the Book of Books has to say to us now. In this paperback re-issue of a work widely acclaimed when it was first published, Robert Davidson clarifies its central message and presents in plain terms the great themes : God, Salvation, Redemption, Sin, Judgment Grace and so an. He shows the why and the how and the when of the development of these great concepts, and lets the Bible speak for itself in such a way that Old and New Testaments are seen as one continuous story, centred upon the twin themes of God and 'the people of God'. At a time when the variety of the material in the Bible and the discontinuity between Old and New Testaments are increasingly and rightly recognised, the author shows that behind the variety there is unity and a fundamental continuity. Of the original edition The Times Literary Supplement reviewer wrote : 'It is a remarkably successful attempt to let the reader appreciate the general sweep of the Bible story.' ROBERT DAVIDSON was educated at the University of St Andrews and followed a university teaching career at Aberdeen, St Andrews and Edinburgh. In 1972 he was appointed Professor of Old Testament Language and Literature in the University of Glasgow. Professor Davidson has written a number of books as well as articles in a wide range of periodicals. Recently he contributed talks on The Word from the Old Testament to 'The Word for Today' series of Saint Andrew Press

The Religion Of Ancient Israel written by Th C. Vriezen and has been published by James Clarke Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Judaism categories.

Have we any right to speak of the religion of ancient Israel? Are there connections between the religion of the patriarchs, that of the tribes who remained in Canaan and that of the Israelites who took part in the exodus and who experienced the period of wandering in the wilderness? To such questions Vriezen provides answers, based on textual, literary and archaeological evidence. Through church and synagogue the Old Testament has influenced western Christendom. But it is also separated from us by a great gulf - of time, space, culture, thinking and belief. Vriezen provides a valuable guide to the Ancient Near East and to Semitic civilisation and religion, explaining the background to many disputive questions relating to Old Testament scholarship.

Fundamentalism written by James Barr and has been published by Wipf and Stock this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-29 with Religion categories.

Much of the Christianity which flourishes best today has ""conservative"" or ""fundamentalist"" characteristics, that is, strong emphasis on the correctness of the Bible, hostility to the methods of modern critical theology and an assurance that those who choose to differ are not really ""true Christians"" at all. In this penetrating critique Professor Barr first argues that the nature of fundamentalism is often misunderstood and that the general understanding of the way in which biblical conservatism works needs to be improved and corrected. Secondly, however, he seeks to dissuade those who are attracted by it, arguing that the conservative position is not only incoherent as a scholarly position but thoroughly in contradiction, theologically, with the central logic of Christian faith. Biblical scholarship and theology, he believes, have much to learn from the discussion. While it is right to repudiate a fundamentalist approach, the reasons advanced for this rejection have often been unsound, and these unsound arguments have damaged both modern biblical criticism and modern theology. Both conservative evangelical and more liberal scholars are likely to study what he has to say with unusual avidity. James Barr was Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Hebrew Bible at Vanderbilt Divinity School, Nashville, where he taught for ten years. His illustrious teaching career has also included professorships at Edinburgh University, Princeton Theological Seminary, Manchester University, and Oxford University. He has held visiting professorships and delivered major lecture series in Europe, the United States, Africa, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand, and was longtime editor of the Journal of Semitic Studies.

Forensic Investigator written by Esther McKay and has been published by Penguin Group Australia this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-08-03 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

FORENSIC INVESTIGATOR Geoff Bernasconi had always been passionate about his job as a policeman in rural New South Wales and, from the earliest days of his career, went the extra mile, both for victims of crime and for their families. But one night in 1984, he was called to investigate the scene of an horrific car accident in which an entire family had been wiped out – and which it was impossible for him to forget. Geoff's day-to-day working life became a catalogue of tragedies, some of which involved people close to him, and he found himself spiralling downwards in the grip of post-traumatic stress disorder. When Esther Mckay, fellow forensic investigator and author of the best-selling Crime Scene, heard that Geoff has been awarded maximum compensation for his suffering, she knew immediately this was a story that needed to be told. This is a harrowing account of what it is like to work on the front-line of crime and tragedy as a forensic investigator. But it is also the inspiring story of someone who has been exposed to sights and experiences many of us can hardly even imagine, yet has emerged from the darkness to begin his journey to recovery.
