Taking the reader on a journey from discovering a marketable passion to generating an income from it, this book is a practical guide to tackling one of the key questions of our era: how to make a living doing the thing you love. Aimed at all those who want their work to be fun and fulfilling, and who feel they might have a unique gift or message to share with the world, this is an amazingly effective guide to making money doing what you love. It is the only book to take readers through the whole process of creating an income from a passion, identifying which interest they could monetize, choosing a bespoke path and learning how to become an expert in their chosen field. Part 1 explains how to discover a marketable passion with the help of the Dream Job Chart, which guides you in assessing your business ideas, skills and the causes you are passionate about. Once you have clarity on your passion, Part 2 describes the three possible paths to creating an income from it, offering inspiring examples of both famous and everyday people who have successfully followed each path. The Adventurer's Path is for those of a braver disposition and with few family commitments. The Strategist's Path is for those with patience, flexibility and a lower tolerance for risk. The Grinder's Path is for those who feel a need to continue with their present work while also pursuing their dream. Finally, Part 3 explores the four stages to becoming an expert in your chosen field, so that people will pay you for your skill or product. Along the way you will learn: • Why bad luck can't stop you • the right time to quit your job • how to use freelancing or consultancy to help you reach your goal • how to make progress with your passion even if you are working full-time • what to do if you're over 50 and want to create an income from your passion • and much, much more!

Praise for A Passion for Giving "Klein and Berrie have produced a great book that manages to make complex issues simple. It blends with grace and craft the deep with the practical and the concrete with the philosophical. It is a precious tool for both the neophyte and the experienced philanthropist. It is both a useful manual and a profound exploration of the core values of giving. In a word, this book is a true gift." –Andres Spokoiny, President and CEO, Jewish Funders Network "Through the years, many people have asked us why we set up our family foundation and how we went about accomplishing this goal. The 'why' is easy to answer: we are fortunate enough to be able to give back and help others in need. The 'how' is perfectly explained in this compelling and very informative book by Peter Klein and Angelica Berrie." –Marilyn and Barry Rubenstein, The Marilyn and Barry Rubenstein Family Foundation "This book should be required reading for new donors and experienced philanthropists. Klein and Berrie have crafted a winning combination of practical guidelines and heartfelt personal accounts to create a moving call to action for anyone who wishes to give back. The stories remind us that when philanthropy, an intensely personal journey, is coupled with deep learning, transformation occurs for both the recipient and the donor." –Debra Mesch, PhD, Professor and Director, Women's Philanthropy Institute, IUPUI "I wish I could have had this book to guide me and refer to as my wife, Andrea, and I launched our Harbor Glow Foundation a decade ago. We would have been much more efficient in the process and more focused in our direction from the get-go. Peter and Angelica capture the spirit and nitty-gritty of a family foundation." –Michael Leeds, Co-Chair, Harbor Glow Foundation

Britain’s high street revolution has made retailing one of the most important and dynamic sectorsof the British economy in the last twenty years. It has had an irreversible impact on our towns and cities and, for many people, transformed shopping from an unattractive domestic chore to a pleasurable ‘leisure ‘experience’, offering consumers an everchanging array of ‘disposable dreams’. The resulting ‘retail culture’ is everywhere – it has colonised huge areas of our social life outside the traditional high street, from sporting venues to arts centres, from railway termini to museums. Many see it as the epitome of Thatcher’s Britain, breeding acquisitive individualism and destroying our traditional manufacturing base. Others see it as a potential saviour of an ailing economy. Yet to date there has been no thorough analysis of this all-pervasive phenomenon, from its economic roots to its profound social effects. In Consuming Passion, Carl Gardner and Julie Sheppard have written the first overall study of the ‘retail revolution’ – a controversial and hard-hitting look at where retailing has come from, what it has achieved and where it is going. Key issues such as the role of design, the growth of the supermarket and shopping centre and the poor conditions of retail employment are all minutely examined. The book also discusses the very real pleasures that consumers gain from today’s enhanced shopping experience. The authors take an iconoclastic look at some of the powerful myths that have sprung up around retail: ‘the death of the high street’ scenario; the central role of credit; retailing as a major creator of employment; and the imminent possibility of ‘retail saturation’. A fascinating book for everyone who likes shopping – and even those who hate it. First published 1989.

Governance Of Cons Passion written by A. Hunt and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-10-01 with Social Science categories.

This book explores the sumptuary laws that regulated conspicuous consumption in respect to dress, ornaments, and food that were widespread in late medieval and early modern Europe. It argues that sumptuary laws were attempts to stabilize social recognizability in the urban `world of strangers' and in the governance of cities. The gendered character of sumptuary laws are viewed as components of 'gender wars'. These laws are explored as projects directed at the reform of popular culture and in their links to the governance of vagrancy and of popular recreation. This study challenges the view that the sumptuary actually died and develops an argument that in the modern world the regulation of consumption persists, but becomes dispersed throughout a range of both public and private forms of governance. The conclusions stresses the persistence of projects of governance of personal appearance and of private consumption.
