INVITE GOD INTO EVERY MOMENT. Life is a fabric woven together with small moments. Each day we drive to work, run errands, cook meals, make phone calls, and everything else in between. In the midst of it all, God stays beside us as a partner, protector, and father. In the Patchwork Devotional, 365 days of encouragement, hope, inspiration, and humor will tune our souls to God’s presence—even in the small things. Writers include some of today’s most dynamic authors and speakers: Patsy Clairmont, Natalie Grant, Nicole Johnson, Carol Kent, Marilyn Meberg, Sandi Patty, Jan Silvious, Luci Swindoll, Sheila Walsh, and Lisa Whelchel. If we take the time, day-by-day we can come to know the privilege of experiencing God’s love for us in all things. We can learn to see everything—big and small—through his eyes.

In 1986, Janice Anderson suffered one of the most devastating losses imaginable when a car accident caused by a drunk driver took the lives of her beloved husband and two children. Trapped in the wreckage alongside them on that hot July afternoon, she cried out to God before losing consciousness. This is the remarkable story of how Janice learned to let God guide her through the hours, days, and years that followed. Janice knows firsthand about anger, grief, fear, and disappointment. But because of her unwavering faith, she also knows about forgiveness, healing, courage, hope, and even joy. Is God responsible for terrible things happening to people? Is suffering what makes us strong? How can we learn to acknowledge our past yet live in the present? Janices experience has led her to examine these universal questions and others, and her search both comforts and inspires. Perhaps you have gone through tragedy of your own. Perhaps you need help releasing anger and pain and focusing on the positive. Whatever your circumstances, you may find yourself in Janices story, a testimony to Gods patience, love, and awesome power.

As the twenty-first century begins, tens of millions of people participate in devotions to the spirits called Òrìsà. This book explores the emergence of Òrìsà devotion as a world religion, one of the most remarkable and compelling developments in the history of the human religious quest. Originating among the Yorùbá people of West Africa, the varied traditions that comprise Òrìsà devotion are today found in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Australia. The African spirit proved remarkably resilient in the face of the transatlantic slave trade, inspiring the perseverance of African religion wherever its adherents settled in the New World. Among the most significant manifestations of this spirit, Yorùbá religious culture persisted, adapted, and even flourished in the Americas, especially in Brazil and Cuba, where it thrives as Candomblé and Lukumi/Santería, respectively. After the end of slavery in the Americas, the free migrations of Latin American and African practitioners has further spread the religion to places like New York City and Miami. Thousands of African Americans have turned to the religion of their ancestors, as have many other spiritual seekers who are not themselves of African descent. Ifá divination in Nigeria, Candomblé funerary chants in Brazil, the role of music in Yorùbá revivalism in the United States, gender and representational authority in Yorùbá religious culture--these are among the many subjects discussed here by experts from around the world. Approaching Òrìsà devotion from diverse vantage points, their collective effort makes this one of the most authoritative texts on Yorùbá religion and a groundbreaking book that heralds this rich, complex, and variegated tradition as one of the world's great religions.

The new novel from the award-winning author of The Marlowe Papers April is angry. Dr Finlay Logan is broken. Only nineteen, April is an elective mute, accused of a religiously motivated atrocity. Logan, a borderline suicidal criminal psychologist, must assess her sanity in a world where - ten years after the death of Richard Dawkins - moves have been made to classify religious fundamentalism as a form of mental illness. Asking fundamental questions about the nature of reality, Barber skillfully explores the balance between the emotional and rational sides of human experience. Told in Ros Barber’s trademark mesmerizing prose, Devotion is an extraordinary, provocative novel from one of the brightest rising stars in fiction.
