Gelenkerkrankungen - besonders die rheumatoide Arthritis, an der weltweit 3-5% der Bevölkerung leiden, aber auch andere Pathologien, belasten seit jeher die Menschheit. Oft führen die Erkrankungen zur Zerstörung des Gelenkes, so dass ein vollständiger Ersatz, also eine Endoprothese, nötig wird. Mit der Problematik befassen sich in der Praxis meist die Fachärtzte für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie und in der Diagnostik die Fachärzte für Pathologie. Das neue Fachbuch fokussiert auf die histologische und molekularpathologische Diagnostik des Bewegungsapparates. Gerade letztere ist methodisch eine Labordiagnostik. Bereiche wie Onkologie, Chirurgie und Gastroenterologie haben in den letzten 5-10 Jahren eine sehr hohe Professionalisierung in der diagnostischen Pathologie erfahren, der Bereich Gelenk- und Muskelerkrankungen blieb aber nahezu ausgeschlossen. Bisher existieren keine einheitlichen Klassifikationsstandards/Scoringssysteme für diesen Bereich. Auch fehlt eine komplette Darstellung der Pathogenese von Gelenkerkrankungen. Das Buch stellt die wesentlichen entzündlichen, degenerativen, tumorähnlichen und neoplastischen Erkrankungen des Bewegungsapparates übersichtlich dar. Knapp gefasst und stark bebildert dient es als Referenz für Pathologen und Orthopäden. Erstmalig wird ein ICD-Scoring für Gelenkpathologien in Buchform präsentiert.

Sport in unserem Sinn ist Bewegung, steht also ausnahmslos in Beziehung zum aktiven und passiven Bewegungsapparat. Physische Aktivität-nur sie beeinflußt nach der Geburt dessen normale morphologische und funktionelle Entwicklung, seine Erhaltung, die Hintanhaltung vorzeitiger Rückbildung, oft auch die Entwicklung und Ausbreitung pathologischer Prozesse. Andererseits kann jedoch die Belastung im Sport im Sinne von Über lastungen, Fehlleistungen - unter anderem auch durch mangelhafte Sport geräte und anderes mehr- oder aber von eigentlichen Unfallsereignissen zu Schädigungen führen. Unsere heutige Zivilisation - oft in Anführungs zeichen zu setzen - hat aber auch zur Folge, daß das Gebiet der Rehabili tation von Schäden infolge unserer technischen Entwicklung, unseres Verkehrs oder von Gewalteinwirkungen zu immer größerer Bedeutung gelangt. Normale und pathologische Anatomie und Physiologie und Pathologie des Bewegungsapparates sind deshalb zentrale Gebiete, die nicht nur für den Arzt, sondern auch für den Sportlehrer Bestandteile seiner Kenntnisse sein müssen. Dr. phil. et med. Rudolf Boeckh, der speziell vom Gebiet der Neurologie her besonders mit den Dingen vertraut ist, hat es in verdankens werter Weise in Zusammenarbeit mit Prof. Dr. Rolf Albonico, Hochschul sportlehrer in St. Gallen, übernommen, eine Darstellung der Pathologie der Bewegungsorgane zu geben. In Ergänzung zu unserem Lehrbuch «Sport biologie» soll der neue Beitrag in der Schriftenreihe der Eidg.
