Written by faculty members of the international symposium 'Valves in the Heart of the Big Apple: Evaluation and Management of Valvular Heart Diseases, this book is intended to complement and supplement the first volume, published in 2002. While the first volume reviews current information on valvular disease pathophysiology, epidemiology and evaluation as well as management strategies for affected patients, the current volume covers areas not discussed in the first and updates information on critical prognostication and management issues. Topics discussed include the selection of patients for surgery, current surgical approaches, natural history and management of selected complex congenital abnormalities involving heart valves, cellular and molecular pathophysiology of myocardial dysfunction. Consideration is also given to prognostication strategies and results as well as technical approaches to measuring disease characteristics. Providing a comprehensive overview of contemporary thinking about valvular heart diseases, this book will be of great value not only to cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, but also to medical students, medical and surgical residents, cardiology and cardiac surgery fellows and general internists.

Diseased heart valves are a growing public health concern, ranging among the most important causes of heart failure and sudden death. This volume reviews the most current information on valvular disease pathophysiology, epidemiology and evaluation as well as management strategies for affected patients. Topics discussed include data supporting selection of asymptomatic patients for valve surgery, methods employed in evaluating patients for this purpose, surgical methods and valve prostheses currently applied for valve repair and replacement, and criteria for selecting among them. Adjunctive problems such as aortic root disease, infective endocarditis and arrhythmias that may modify patient management are also considered. Epidemiologic data illustrate the increasing prevalence of valvular disease in the population. In addition, the book reviews new and emerging knowledge about the molecular and cellular basis of myocardial dysfunction and heart failure in various forms of valvular disease, and new information about the potential roles of alternative medicine, blood conservation and minimally invasive surgical techniques. A particular highlight is a 'debate' between paired chapters on the appropriateness of mitral valve surgery for patients with less than severe mitral regurgitation of ischemic etiology. Compiling the most up-to-date and authoritative information in the field, this book will be of great value not only to cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, but also to medical students, medical and surgical residents, cardiology and cardiac surgery fellows and general internists.

Valvular Heart Disease written by Marian C. Hawkey and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-30 with Medical categories.

This book serves as the “go-to” resource for cardiovascular nurses and other health care practitioners involved in the care of patients with acquired valvular heart disease. It includes unique information about heart valve anatomy and pathophysiology, the complexity of clinical presentations and diagnostic evaluation, patient education and shared decision-making, surgical and transcatheter treatment options, and transition to palliative care. The content focuses primarily on the specialized care of patients with aortic stenosis and regurgitation, and mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. In addition, this unique resource provides timely information to guide a patient-centred and team-driven approach that reflects contemporary and innovative practice in the management of valvular heart disease. The essential topics of strengthening the multidisciplinary Heart Team and programmatic processes of care, the priorities for nursing care, and the multifactorial challenges of managing this complex patient population are explored in detail. Importantly, this resource aims to support all clinicians who are involved in the various timepoints of patients’ full trajectory of care, from their evaluation pathway, admissions for treatment, and long term follow-up. Clinicians require contemporary knowledge and evidence to guide their practice, provide appropriate care for this complex patient population, and contribute to the advancement of practice. To date, there has been little emphasis placed on the management of valvular heart disease in cardiovascular nursing and allied health curriculum. This book fills this gap and addresses the pressing need for a user-friendly resource to guide the care for this growing population in a rapidly changing clinical environment. The editors are international leaders in the care and management of patients with acquired valvular heart disease and program development. They are widely recognized for their pioneering role in shaping the way we care for these patients.

Valvular Heart Disease written by Andrew Wang and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01-14 with Medical categories.

Challenges for the treatment of valvular heart disease include the growing need for effective yet less invasive interventions and therapies to treat these progressive conditions. With the development of potential new treatments, it is crucial for cardiac physicians to be well informed on the pathophysiology, assessment, treatment options and their outcomes of valvular diseases. Written by a highly experienced and internationally recognized group of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and researchers, Valvular Heart Disease offers insights into the widely varying hemodynamic effects and clinical course of heart valve conditions, as well as the contemporary management of these conditions. Offering a broad perspective on these diseases, Valvular Heart Disease expands on the recent guidelines developed by the major heart societies in the United State and Europe.

This book provides a state-of-the-art description of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of valvular heart disease (VHD). With an aging population, the incidence and complexity of VHD has markedly increased and the introduction of transcatheter valve therapies have revolutionized the management of these frequent and serious cardiovascular diseases. The development of percutaneous valve interventions has revolutionized the management of VHD (or has dramatically changed its management) Heart Valve Disease: State of the Art is dedicated to provide up-to-date knowledge to clinical and interventional cardiologists, cardiovascular imagers and cardiac surgeons. It provides state-of-the-art information for the health-care professional working in heart valve clinics, heart teams, and centers of excellence that specialize in managing patients with heart valve disease.

Drug Induced Valvular Heart Disease written by Steven Droogmans and has been published by Nova Biomedical Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Drugs categories.

The notion that drugs can induce valvular heart disease (VHD) has occurred since the sixties and has received a lot of attention in recent years. Overstimulation of the serotonin 2B receptor (5-HT2B) leads to valvular fibroblast proliferation and thickening of the valvular leaflets with reduced mobility and regurgitation as a consequence. This new book focuses on different aspects of this distinct kind of valvulopathy including pathophysiology of drug-induced VHD, histopathological and echocardiographic characteristics, drugs associated with VHD, the influence of cumulative drug dose and risk factors and others.
