Der patriarchale Charakter des DDR-Staates ist bis heute sehr wohl umstritten. Und das, obwohl auch in der DDR Frauenarbeit geringer gewertet, letztlich geringer bezahlt wurde als Männerarbeit. Auch in der DDR waren Frauen materiell ärmer als Männer. Auch in der DDR waren die höchsten Leitungsfunktionen von Männern besetzt ... Auf ihren im Jahr 2005 erschienenen Forschungsbericht unter dem Titel »Patriarchat im Sozialismus?« erhielten Ursula Schröter und Renate Ullrich sehr unterschiedliche Reaktionen. So hörten sie zum einen die erstaunte, nicht selten auch unwillige Frage, überwiegend von Leserinnen, warum der Titel mit einem Fragezeichen versehen sei. Der patriarchale Charakter des DDR-Staates sei durch die vorgelegte Analyse schließlich bestätigt. Zum anderen fand die Publikation offensichtlich auch Leserinnen und Leser, die sich durch den von vornherein postulierten Zusammenhang zwischen DDRSozialismus und Patriarchat betroffen oder gar verletzt fühlten. Meist wurde in solchen Debatten auf die gegenwärtige deutsche Gesellschaft und deren frauenfeindliche Defekte verwiesen. Das Fragezeichen im Titel unserer Publikation empfanden demnach die einen als überflüssig, während es die anderen als wichtigste Botschaft lasen. Der hier vorgelegte Band führt die erste Untersuchung fort und analysiert offizielle Dokumente, DEFA-Dokumentarfilme und soziologische Befragungen.

VorwortDie »Oktoberrevolution« des Jahres 1989 in der DDR wird auch an der dortigen Geschichtswissenschaft nicht spurlos vorübergehen. Die zu erwartenden weiteren Veränderungen in Richtung auf einen demokratischen Rechtsstaat werden auf dem Gebiet von Geschichtsforschung und -schreibung an den Akademien, Universitäten und Hochschulen vielmehr einem wissenschaftlichen Pluralismus den Weg öffnen, wie es allenthalben die Regel sein sollte. Damit steht zu erwarten, daß es in Zukunft eine marxistisch-leninistische Geschichtswissenschaft in der herkömmlichen, starr auf den politisch-ideologischen Führungsanspruch einer Partei ausgerichteten Form nicht mehr geben wird.Unter dieser Voraussetzung ist kaum ein geeigneterer Zeitpunkt denkbar, um den im Jahre 1988 begonnenen Versuch einer kritischen Bilanz der marxistisch-leninistischen Geschichtswissenschaft in der DDR mit einem weiteren Band fortzuführen. Nachdem im ersten Teil dieses Sammelwerkes wichtige Aspekte der wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Entwicklung, der Diskussion von Theorie- und Methodenproblemen sowie die didaktische Umsetzung von Geschichte behandelt wurden, folgen nunmehr in chronologischer Reihenfolge Analysen zur marxistisch-leninistischen Interpretation von Epochen, Prozessen und Persönlichkeiten aus einem Spektrum, das von der Vor- und Frühgeschichte bis zum Beginn der Zeitgeschichte reicht.
