Il libro affronta la nascita di Roma Capitale e la costruzione dei primi ospedali, per poi presentare delle schede in cui è analizzato il modo in cui, tramite il web e la comunicazione istituzionale, gli istituti ospedalieri si presentano. Le schede sono precedute da una sorta di passeggiata narrata, che conduce per mano i lettori fornendo elementi di contesto locale e geografico dei quartieri in cui sono collocati gli ospedali.
