This book is dedicated to the memory of these two good friends and all the others from the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) at the Texas Western College in El Paso, Texas who gave their lives that the rest of us in the 12th Armored Division might live. John Fuchs and John Haufle were in the 17th Armored Infantry, 12th Armored Division and they were killed in action in Alsace, France in the winter campaign of 1944-45. The rest of us in the 12th Armored Division have had 60 more years to live, getting married, raising families and building careers. It is fitting that we give some time to studying the causes of wars and speaking out to make the changes in the United Nations that are necessary to make it effective in bringing peace.

Peace In Our Hearts Peace In The World written by Ruth Fishel and has been published by Sterling Publishing Company, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Peace begins with us! When the world is at its most threatening and uncertainty reigns, it comforts us to know that mindful living is still within our grasp. Peace in Our Hearts, Peace in the World helps us come to a full and deep understanding of our own thoughts, actions, limitations, and strengths--and the effect they have on the world at large. Ruth Fishel serves as our wonderfully effective guide through this year-long journey of introspection, reflection, and resolution. Her daily encouragement to appreciate the most basic things in life--waking up, brushing our teeth, the breaths we take--alternate with thoughts on relationships, choice, and personal responsibility. A thought-provoking quote accompanies each meditation: Fishel draws these wise words from sources old and new, ranging from Buddhism to new spiritual writings by Eckhart Tolle, Christina Feldman, and Deepak Chopra. Small enough to travel with, and beautifully designed, this book makes inspirational reading available anytime, anywhere. Readers will find its comforting presence a constant reminder of the maxim that drives this motivational collection: if there is peace in our hearts, there may indeed one day be peace in the world.

Understanding Peace Cultures written by Rebecca L. Oxford and has been published by IAP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-01 with Education categories.

Understanding Peace Cultures is exceptionally practical as well as theoretically grounded. As Elise Boulding tells us, culture consists of the shared values, ideas, practices, and artifacts of a group united by a common history. Rebecca Oxford explains that peace cultures are cultures, large or small, which foster any of the dimensions of peace – inner, interpersonal, intergroup, international, intercultural, or ecological – and thus help transform the world. As in her earlier book, The Language of Peace: Communicating to Create Harmony, Oxford contends here that peace is a serious and desirable option. Excellent educators help build peace cultures. In this book, Shelley Wong and Rachel Grant reveal how highly diverse public school classrooms serve as peace cultures, using activities and themes founded on womanist and critical race theories. Yingji Wang portrays a peace culture in a university classroom. Rui Ma’s model reaches out interculturally to Abraham’s children: Jewish, Christian, and Muslim youth, who share an ancient heritage. Children’s literature (Rebecca Oxford et al.) and students’ own writing (Tina Wei) spread cultures of peace. Deep traditions, such as African performance art, Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism and Islam, give rise to peace cultures, as shown here by John Grayzel, Sister Jewel (a colleague of Thich Nhat Hanh), Yingji Wang et al., and Dian Marissa et al. Peace cultures also emerge in completely unexpected venues, such as gangsta rap, unveiled by Charles Blake et al., and a prison where inmates learn Lois Liggett’s “spiritual semantics.” Finally, the book includes perspectives from Jerusalem (by Lawrence Berlin) and North Korea and South Korea (by Carol Griffiths) to help us envision – and hope for – new, transformative peace cultures where now there is strife.

This groundbreaking volume documents a comprehensive peacebuilding initiative in addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and reviews the broad theoretical base underlying these efforts. Theory chapters discuss intrinsic peace-related concepts, including the nature of conflict, elements of individual and group identity, the long-term psychological effects of prolonged political hostilities, and the mechanisms of reconciliation and inclusiveness. Central to the coverage is the ambitious Building Peace through Knowledge Project, a four-year multidisciplinary program featuring a diverse palette of professional and community interventions to reduce the occurrence and trauma of political violence. The author reveals powerful insights connecting knowledge to peacebuilding by analyzing: · The relationships between attitudes and ideology in intergroup conflict. · The psychosocial impact of political violence among Israelis and Palestinians. · The literature on people-to-people interventions (P2Ps) in conflict reduction. · The roles of forgiveness, reconciliation, and fairness in conflict resolution. · The methodology and findings of the Building Peace through Knowledge Project. · The potential of knowledge-based interventions in building sustainable peace in other regions. Practitioners, mental health professionals, and scholars with interests in multicultural mental health, cross-cultural psychology, political violence, and peace education will look to Building Peace through Knowledge as an ideabook, a mission statement, and a road map toward a more stable world.

The Wizard's Treasure: Journeymen magicians Marcus and Robb have been sent on a quest by Senior Magician Jaylor to find the missing dragons of Coronnan and bring them back to the kingdom. Look for The Star Gods trilogy and the new Children of the Dragon Nimbus series! A letter from the author, Irene Radford: Welcome to the world where dragons are real and magic works. If you are new to the Dragon Nimbus, pull up a chair and join us as we revel in tales that have touched my heart more than anything else I've written under any pen name. If you are returning after an absence, I am very happy to have you back. This is a world that began with a Christmas gift of a blown-glass dragon. The dragon sat proudly on the knick-knack shelf for several months, loved and admired, reluctantly dusted, and totally inert. Then one night at dinner, my son remarked, "You know, Mom, I think dragons are born all dark, like that little pewter dragon, then they get more silvery as they grow up until they are as clear as glass." The dragon came to life for me. Out of that chance remark came first one book, then three, five, seven, and finally ten. I built a career on these books and loved every minute of the process. These characters still live in my mind many years after they jumped into their stories and dragged me along with them. Many thanks to DAW Books and my editor Sheila Gilbert for reviving The Dragon Nimbus a lucky thirteen years after they first debuted. With these omnibus volumes, you can read about the dragons with crystal fur that directs your eye elsewhere yet defies you to look anywhere else. Wonderful dragons full of wit and wisdom. Magic abounds. Magicians and mundanes alike learn about their world and special life lessons as they explore dragon lore past and present. The books will be presented in the order in which they were written, and the order that makes the most sense of the entwined tales. So, sit back and enjoy with me. And may reading take you soaring with Dragons.
