Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich VWL - Mikroökonomie, allgemein, Note: 2,0, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Veranstaltung: Seminarthema: Preisbildung auf regulierten Märkten, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Seminararbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Theorie des Peak-Load Pricing (PLP), die sich in der Literatur als Antwort auf Probleme der öffentlichen Versorgungseinrichtungen wie der Elektrizitätswirtschaft und Telekommunikation entwickelte. Die Produkte dieser Branchen sind nicht oder nur zu prohibitiv hohen Kosten lagerfähig und mit einer periodisch schwankenden Nachfrage konfrontiert. Hierfür bietet das PLP einen Lösungsansatz der folgende Ziele verfolgt: erstens die Reduzierung der Spitzenlastnachfrage mittels eines höheren Spitzenlastpreises das eine Kapazitätserweiterung verhindert, und zweitens die Verlagerung der Spitzenlastnachfrage (peak) in die Schwachlastperiode (off-peak) mittels eines niedrigeren Preises in der Schwachlastperiode. Die Konsequenz ist sowohl die Verbesserung der Kapazitätsauslastung als auch die Reduzierung der Betriebs- und Kapazitätskosten (KapK). Im Kontext von öffentlichen Versorgungseinrichtungen und solchen Peak-Load Problemen brachten Ökonomen wie Boiteux (1949), Steiner (1957), Hirshleifer (1958) und Williamson (1966) u. a. dazu, Peak-Load Pricing Modelle mit dem Hintergrund der Wohlfahrtsmaximierung zu entwickeln. Inhalt dieser Seminararbeit soll sein, das Modell des PLP darzustellen und zu erläutern, wobei im zweiten Kapitel zunächst der Gegenstand des PLP aufgezeigt werden soll. In Kapitel 3 erfolgen die von Steiner (1957) aufgestellten Annahmen, worauf im Anschluss die graphische und analytische Herleitung der optimalen Preisstruktur und Kapazität des Modells folgt. Da das PLP Modell nach Steiner (1957) auf sehr restriktiven Annahmen beruht, werden in Kapitel 4 die wichtigsten Modellmodifikationen und die Effekte von Price-Caps auf das PLP dargestellt und erläutert. Weiterhin kam es in der Literatur zu Weiterentwicklungen des Modells basierend auf realitätsnäheren Annahmen, welche aus Platzgründen in Kapitel 5 nur kurz angerissen werden. Im sechsten Kapitel soll anhand der Elektrizitätsindustrie die empirische Evidenz des PLP Modells untersucht werden. Die Arbeit schließt mit einer kurzen Zusammenfassung.
