Bernard R. Gifford In the United States, the standardized test has become one of the major sources of information for reducing uncertainty in the determination of individual merit and in the allocation of merit-based educational, training, and employment opportunities. Most major institutions of higher education require applicants to supplement their records of academic achievements with scores on standardized tests. Similarly, in the workplace, as a condition of employment or assignment to training programs, more and more employers are requiring prospective employees to sit for standardized tests. In short, with increasing frequency and intensity, individual members of the political economy are required to transmit to the opportunity marketplace scores on standardized examinations that purport to be objective measures of their and potential. In many instances, these test scores are the abilities, talents, only signals about their skills that job applicants are permitted to send to prospective employers. THE NATIONAL COMMISSION ON TESTING AND PUBLIC POLICY In view of the importance of these issues to our current national agenda, it was proposed that the Human Rights and Governance and the Education and Culture Programs of the Ford Foundation support the establishment of a ''blue ribbon" National Commission on Testing and Public Policy to investigate some of the major problems as well as the untapped opportunities created by recent trends in the use of standardized tests, particularly in the workplace and in schools.

L’obra que us presentem troba el seu antecedent en el llibre Les Pràctiques d’Educació Social. Eines per al seu desenvolupament, publicat al 2004 pel Servei de Publicacions de la UAB, en el marc de la diplomatura d’Educació Social de la Facultat de Ciències de l’Educació de la UAB, antecessora dels graus actuals. Una part important de l’equip que el va redactar repeteix autoria en El Pràcticum de Pedagogia i Educació Social. Competències i recursos, que teniu a les mans. Aquest fet evidencia l’interès i el compromís del professorat que s’ha implicat en la important tasca d’organitzar i desenvolupar els pràcticums de les dues titulacions, i que ha volgut anar més enllà deixant testimoni escrit de com són i com s’estan gestionant els nous plans d’estudi iniciats al 2007-2008. Comptar amb els dos documents ens proporciona l’oportunitat de conèixer les modalitats dels pràcticums que es descriuen, en el context i en l’època acadèmica en què s’han dut a terme, i l’evolució històrica viscuda entre l’etapa anterior determinada per la LOGSE (1990) i les lleis que la van desenvolupar, i l’actual model de plans d’estudi universitaris derivats dels acords de Bolonya (1999) i de la implantació de l’Espai Europeu d’Educació Superior (2010). El llibre s’emmarca en els graus d’Educació Social i de Pedagogia que s’imparteixen actualment a la Facultat de Ciències de l’Educació de la UAB. S’ha escrit sota la consideració de Projecte Singular entre altres projectes presentats per les coordinacions de titulació de la Facultat, amb el suport institucional i econòmic que comporta. La informació i la visió històrica sistemàtica, extensa i molt detallada que aporten els dos llibres seran rellevants per conèixer el passat i el present, i per continuar construint el futur. La Facultat de Ciències de l’Educació considera els pràcticums de les diferents titulacions com l’eix troncal sobre el que pivota tota la formació acadèmica de cadascun d’ells. En les pràctiques externes professionalitzadores, l’alumnat té l’oportunitat de conèixer la realitat de la seva futura professió, i ho farà de forma progressiva i tutelada, activa i participativa durant una part molt important en durada, nombre de crèdits, intensitat formativa i exigència acadèmica.
