Optimalkan Pembangunan Sektor Peternakan Di sektor pertanian, sub sektor peternakan merupakan salah satu kegiatan utama masyarakat Aceh, sehingga sub sektor ini sangat potensial untuk dikembangkan. Hampir setiap keluarga di Aceh, terutama di gampong-gampong, memiliki usaha sampingan di bidang ternak. Pendapatan dari usaha ternak ini sangat membantu ekonomi keluarga. Hanya saja sub sektor peternakan belum tergarap secara optimal dan terpadu. Pengembangan sub sektor peternakan didukung oleh potensi alam Aceh yang memiliki lahan peternakan yang luas dengan ketersediaan padang rumput hijau yang menjadi sumber pakan ternak. Namun kayanya potensi sumberdaya alam tersebut tidak sepenuhnya mampu mengangkat peternakan sebagai sektor yang berdikari dan memiliki pengaruh yang cukup besar terhadap perekonomian Aceh. Hal tersebut terlihat dari kontribusinya terhadap PDRB Aceh saat ini baru mencapai angka 5,23 persen. Tidak hanya pada kontribusi peternakan, sejumlah populasi ternak di Aceh juga mengalami penurunan. Misalnya, sapi potong populasinya saat ini mencapai 404.221 ekor dan rata-rata terus mengalami penurunan sebesar 23 persen dari tahun 2012. Hal ini ikut menyebabkan harga daging sapi di Aceh mahal. Pemerintah selama ini telah memberikan perhatian pada sub sektor peternakan. Salah satu programnya adalah pengadaan bibit sapi untuk masyarakat. Namun, kenyataannya, tidak banyak warga yang sukses di sektor peternakan. Peternakan belum menjadi andalah pendapatan keluarga. Untuk itu, dinas terkait perlu mengevaluasi berbagai faktor kelambanan pengembangan sektor ini. Misalnya, apakah benefeceries (penerima manfaat) sudah tepat sasaran, apakah program-program penyuluhan dan sebagainya telah dijalankan secara baik, secara reguler dan berkelanjutan. Jika digarap dengan serius, sektor peternakan sangat menjanjikan bagi pendapatan keluarga. Rasyidi (49) di Kecamatan Sampoiniet Kabupaten Aceh Jaya berhasil hidup makmur dengan usaha ini. Dia bahkan menjadikan usaha ternak sapi sebagai profesi. Usahanya dari hari ke hari menunjukkan peningkatan yang cukup signifikan. Pada tahun 2012 Rasyidi memiliki 200 ekor sapi/kerbau, namun tiga tahun kemudian berkembang menjadi 450 ekor dengan harga jual berkisar Rp 15-45 juta per ekor. Satu hal yang dikeluhkan Rasyidi yaitu dia tidak mampu mengembangkan bibit sapi unggul dengan ukuran dan berat yang lebih besar. Dalam hal ini tentu membutuhkan campur tangan pemerintah melalui instansi teknis terkait. Rasyidi pantas diangkat sebagai ikon peternak Aceh. Kiranya instansi terkait perlu mendorong lahirnya minimal seorang Rasyidi di setiap kabupten/kota. Dengan demikian, Aceh akan surplus daging serta menekan angka kemiskinan dan pengangguran.
